have a question. I graduated school in Feb. 2010 and have been hauling steel since March.

Had I known Con-Way hired students, providing they pass all the tests, I would have applied then. They were hiring like mad up until the week I contacted them. I had talked to the terminal manager a couple of times, he seemed interested, then the hiring freeze was put into effect that week.

I have called a few times since then and been told they are looking to start hiring again February to March or so.

I was hurt and put on workers comp for 6 months.

I wonder if that will hurt me when going for a job at Con-Way when the time comes. I have a feeling that's why I was sent for the drug test and physical for one company and passed....then was told by HR that my app was pending. They didn't hire me. I know that workers comp is put on your DAC.

Anyone know Con-Way's policy on the matter? And anyone know when they will actually start hiring again?

P.S. I posted this elsewhere but thought I'd get a few more views here.

I'm guessing since you talked to the TM in Akron you're applying at Freight. It's very rare for the company, or any LTL company, to hire this time of year. Hiring usually starts in March or April at locations that need drivers. I have no idea if work comp will hurt your chances though..

Well, I had an interview and it went well. I didn't bring up the workers comp issue but I'm sure my current employer will when Con-Way calls to verify employment.

Sounds like a hard job, at least for a while, as you sit by the phone and they can call you anytime. Lots of dock work, no set schedule, etc. But I know down the road, it will pay off.

I hope I get the job...
