I've been interested in doing linehaul for an ltl company...right now I work for FedEx Express but my schedule is 2am to 11am and most of it is not driving so I have plenty of hours for another job in the afternoon/night. Is it hard to get in with Conway, I wouldn't mind working the dock's etc, would it be a conflict of interest between the two companies? Thanks for offering your help

I have been running linehaul for a year. I start around 20:00 and end up back at home terminal sometime around 8:00-10:00 the next morning. Yea, 12 to 14 hours consistently. When you start out at the bottom you get the shortest runs and long hours on the dock. There are exceptions to that but generally that's how it works.

Oh yeah, about the conflict of interest. I am almost certain there would be. Neither company would want you working for the enemy. And yes, it is fairly easy to get hired. Just make sure you are completely honest about everything you tell them. If they find out you lied about something, they really frown on that. I guess most companies would.

Yeah I figured thanks for the answer though, even though their more directly in competition technically with FedEx Freight...but they would see it all under the FedEx umbrella. I would like to have another driving job can't see myself stuck indoors but won't leave FedEx so conflict of interest deters me oh well

    Thank you.

    1) the hours is one of my concerns. You pretty much probably answered that---in at 10pm done by 8-10 in the morning. Not favorable.

    2) the money

    3) Could you describe in great detail a typical shift for you?

I go in at 20:00(8:00pm) to receive my loads I will be hauling for the night. Two 28' pups. A little tricky to hook at first but in time it's a snap.
I get all my paperwork in order and set out on my 90 mile odyssey. I used to run otr so when I say 90 miles it sounds kinda funny. Anyway, I arrive at the terminal where I will be working for the night. Unloading and loading trailers for 5-7 hours. It's almost all forklift work. Very little hand freight. The terminal I am in has 232 doors and it is absolutely freaking nuts. It's like a #### rally race on forklifts. If you like fast pace, you will love it. At the end of the evening you get your loads to take back to your home terminal for the day crew to unload and load. It's just one big cycle everyday.
The two best things are being home everyday and it pays well. Everything you do you're paid for. There's no sitting at the shipper/consignee with your thumb up your ###. I personally gross about $1200/week and I am at bottom scale. The top guys who have been here for years make $80,000-$100,000. You just have to stick it out and take the #### they give you. The longer you've been here the longer runs you can get. And that means less dock time.
And if none of that sounds very appealing to you, you could run during the day. City P&D (pick up and delivery). Hope this helps, gotta run...

    Surfer Joe Thanks this.

mlrs270, why are you doing the apprenticeship if you have been driving for 15 years? That's a program to get your CDL.

Conway city p&d is hard work if you're a new Guy well I guess what area you're in. When I started I was on the extra board or we'll call u if we need you, which I hated when it got slow and u would have to call in all day at 800 , 1000, 200 . I did make a lot of money while I was there and conway is about seniority which means you will not get any easy runs or a warehouse load where u can sit in your truck and relax. Good company tho! !!!!
