I was looking on crossroads and saw in the "driver opportunities" section there was listed the Nissan dedicated account availability. Being somewhat new to the Schneider family, how do I go about finding more information about this account? Do I go to my DBL or do I call the contact person listed for the Nissan account? I don't want to go about this the wrong way, piss someone of for doing it the wrong way and hurt my chances at getting on this account (the daily TAH would really help my family out). Also does anyone have any info about the spot? I've heard some dedicated accounts are paid salary and some are milage based, is this true? It's a solo company driver position and says I'll be the utility driver, so it sounds like I'll be filling in for the normal route drivers on their days off (fine by me). Just looking for some additional information. Thanks in advance

I think you contact the person listed next to the opening, but I imagine your dbl can point you in the right direction.

I would be very careful about this. Typically SNI wants you to stick with your current job 6-12 months before transferring, lthough better tranfer than waste the money they already have invested in you. When I switched jobs within SNI, I went to my current DBL and explained why I wanted to leave and could benefit thwm by doing so. I spent about a month finsihing my route so they could find a replacement and they kept the new job open for me. The key will be having a logical reason for leaving (such as more miles, closer to home, more pAY, more home time, etc) and having him agree to release you. If he does, then he can put you on the right path and in touch with the right people. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. What I DEFFINETLY don't want to do is to go about this the wrong way and piss of my DBL right now and screw myself. A more consistent paycheck (even if its not more than what im making now) and daily TAH are the huge factors for me

I started new as a regional driver and shifted to Nissan dedicated out of TN within two and a half months. I did the following:

First contacted the DBL on the account to find out about the expectations.

This one is a team account so I had to wait on an available co-driver so it took a little time for me to go over to the account.

After the DBL was willing to accept me, I then talked to my DBL where I was running regional. He was willing to let me go over.

Much will depend on your current DBL if they will let you go, it isn't about Ping-OFF someone. Some DBL's will work with the driver, some won't, but that is the order I went in when I changed accounts.

Thanks for the info BigCove. I know there are probably some differences between the solo/team parts of the Nissan account, but how do you like it? Do you deliver to dealerships, DC's ? Any more info would be greatly appreciated

We pick up at the warehouse, main plant, engine and machining plant, and some suppliers and deliver to Laredo, TX. We also transport between Laredo and Canton, MS.

For this account, you have to live within 50 miles of Smyrna, TN or Laredo, TX. We get good miles of average 6400 per 6 days. We do three turns to Laredo and back here or Canton - then two days home. I wish it was solo, but due to the expediting nature and just in time inventory for Nissan, it has to be team. I understand that, however I am not crazy about teaming.
Our DBL is actually at the Nissan warehouse - not in an OC.

I worked at the Nissan plant here in Smyrna for 18 years with part of those years on the loading dock. I already understood much of the freight before coming onto the account.

I thought they had shut down the dedicated out of California when Nissan moved the headquarters from Cali to Tennessee. I am glad to see they are opening up some more business from that area. I still have a vested interest in seeing them do well.

Thanks for all the info again BigCove. Yeah the CA account says it's "new business", and the solo spot is a "utility" spot, which from reading around sounds like the majority of the time I would be a golpher running around doing different tasks and when the normal route drivers have the day off I would cover their route. Was the old plant in Cali that you knew of in Compton? They want you to be 40 miles from Compton, so either the plant is there or I would just be running out of the LA Maintenance yard (which I hate with a passion, it's always too busy and packed). Like I said as long as the money is consistent and the big thing of having daily TAH, I'd be a happy camper.

I don't think there was a Nissan plant in California. I think it was a distribution center and the headquarters (read admin jobs) only. But it does sound like a good gig. Utility could also mean yard jockey, but I don't know that.
