15 speed vs. 8LL

Yess you can still get a 15 in a new truck but the highest torque raiting is 1650 so if you want big power you can only use a 10, 13 or 18 speed.

OK...but not great.

The shop that does my brakes believes in soft linings to save the drums. I always used a medium hard lining when I did my own brake work but I'm too fricken old to be crawling around the truck anymore than I have to these days.

I have put about 700,000+ miles on the truck since I bought it in Jan of '03... (I had it parked for 23 months when the fuel hit $4.00 in '07 and again after my big wreck in '09). I had them reline the drives in '04 then again in February of this year... put new drums on this time, too.

I sometimes use my Jake on an off ramp or out on a two lane when coming to a stop but mostly just make a slow, gentle stop if I can without the exhaust brake.

Seems to work OK.

 

I had a drive line mechanic at a large dealer ship tell me their is no differance between any torque rating as far as hard parts go. A 1450, 1650, 1850, 2050, and even the 2250s are all the same. The reason they are raited different are for warranty issues. It someone turnes up an engine beyond the torque raiting of the trans. they dont have to warranty it. Dont know if its true or not because the 1750 and 1850 10 speeds have different ratios than the lower torque models so something is different their.

A 16915 will have a pump, a 14915 most cases does not.
