My husband Bill worked for Lester Coggins Trucking, for about a year this last time. He had been giving them all that he had in the way of working. He would be delivering and after he delivered he would have to sit for anywhere from 2 days to a week before Coggins decided that they was going to give him a load out of there. He would be left sitting in the parking lots where he had delivered until he would finally get run off and Coggins wouldn't let him just go to a truck stop and wait.
He would call them almost every hour, they told him that when they had something they'd let him know. But they usually didn't for at least another day. I know this because he would call me and complain to me about it.
He decided that he was interested in looking for another job. He finally found one and he called Coggins up while he was on the road and gave them notice. They had already gotten word of the new job some how. But he was in Alabama at the time and he was on a time crunch to get back to Florida to turn in his truck. He has neve left a truck abandoned for any reason and he wasn't going to start now.
They told him that he had to stay in Alabama until they got a load coming back to Florida. They finally offered him one but it was going the other way.
He told them that he had to get back to Florida as soon as possible. They told him that he couldn't come back without a load. He drove back to the yard anyway. They told him that because he came back without a load and as far as they was concerned he had abandoned his truck. Which we don't understand because he drove it back to the yard and gave them the keys.
Well they told him that because of this that he would never be able to get another driving job as long as he drove. They told him that he was "BLACKBALLED" from driving.
So now because of Lester Coggins trucking, the only kinds of trucking jobs that he can get is crappy ones that pay hardly nothing because of Coggins destroying his good name and good reputation as a driver. He's been driving since the early 60's.
My words to you. DRIVERS LOOKING FOR JOBS. STAY AWAY FROM LESTER COGGINS TRUCKING IN OKAHUMPKA, FLORIDA.

IMHO..
I dont know if Coggins does this but everytime we have left a trucking company and we returned the truck to the yard they go over the truck to make sure that everything that should be there is there and that the truck is in good condition and then both the company and the driver sign off on the truck and both parties get to keep a copy of this record... did your husband/coggins do this..? This record would be proof that he took the truck back to the terminal. If not perhaps he could contact the guys in the shop/fuel bay etc who saw him bring the truck back and try and get a written statement from them saying that he did bring it back and then he can probably dispute what is on his DAC and try and get it changed.
As far as I am aware companies cannot say anything to other companies contacting them about a previous driver except that he worked there and if he was 'rehireable' or not. If coggins has said anything other than that to prospective employers then your husband should probably take action. This what I believe, I could be wrong but it will be worth looking into.
Besides these days with CSA 2010 Companies are now starting to use that (plus DAC) to determine what kind of driver you are.
All your husband needs is some proof that he returned the truck to the terminal..this 'blackball stuff' is a load of horsehockey...the reason he is getting crappy jobs is that his DAC will probably say he has an abandoned truck from last employer...that in itself would stop a lot of companies.
Good luck...I hope things get sorted out for you. -
You'd be surprised on what opportunities one might have in FL if you have 6 months or more. I have seen more carriers extend their hiring area to Tampa and above. I know two carriers that can get you home every 7-9 days if you are willing to team and possess three yrs experience.
