Try to stay away from Swift,Werner, England, Usexpress.... the list could go on but find a company you can tolerate for awhile. Try to stay for a year if you can if your not happy move on. Depending on the day or even the week I want to give it up but then miles pick-up for a few weeks dispatch stays off my butt for longer than normal and I love it. Point is find a company that wants you hopefully none that I listed give it sometime and then you can find a company that you want to work for. Think of it as the minor leagues in baseball, do your job and do it right and the best will come. I have only 8 months so I am no expert, but about 6 months in I started talking to some local companies some said sorry not enough experience some said lets see what you got. If I am lucky one will call soon, but that can also depend on where you live also. I am about 35 miles SW of Chicago so there is a lot of small ( 10-25) tractors up and down I-55 and across I-80, so get some time and then start looking all they can say is no. IMO try KLLM or Maverick or TMC or Shaffer

abf's pension isn't that outrageous, they didn't get jacked up when yrc pulled out, like a lot of people assume. abf would be my #2 pick, upsf #3(have fun with that application though!) and fedex and conway rounding out the list. i heard wally world pays real well, but i always thought that they expected you to stay out for a long time?

I have been driver for almost 20 yrs and i have come to find out that there are good and bad things about every trucking company out there and it depends on who you talk to to what answer you get. There is a lot of bad things said about companies like werner and swift and i will bet that there are just as many drivers that are happy with those companies as there are unhappy drivers. I started with werner 20 yrs ago right out of school and i would not trade that experience for anything. I had 2 different trainers with almost 50 yrs of driving experience between them. You need to find a decent company and get a year or 2 of experience and then you will have an easier time finding the good paying companies, because most want at least 2 yrs experience.
    Good luck with your decision.

Biged, you are right ,especially about the trainers. I think if you have a decent one,may not have to be a nice guy but a decent trainer that will actually take the time to do his job and train it can make the whole process alittle better. Lets face it if you can make it through 5-6 weeks with a decent trainer someones chances of makeing it through the next year are much better. And yes I believe it also depends on who you talk to about a certain company.

You want to find a good driving job?Get out of your house and pound the pavement, and use the truck stop mags for fire starters.

Truck-stop mags? Whats really the difference in looking in the truck stop mags, and finding them online which is a better marketing tool?

Fremont Contract Carriers out of Fremont, NE is probably one of the best to drive for as a company driver. In fact they were recently voted one of the top companies to drive for.

Neither. Find a company near you, make an appointment and sell yourself face to face to someone with the power to offer you a job.

The internet has spoiled us. Do it the old fashioned way. Network face to face. You have to set yourself apart from the thousands of people with the ability to click a mouse.
