When I started driving, in 2004, truck drivers used to get a free cup of coffee at a lot of places just because they were truck drivers. I noticed, in late 2005, drivers would get a free cup of coffee with a fill up. In the past two years is when it's stopped, I guess. Although there are still one, or two places I've stopped that still gave free coffee just for being a truck driver, and those were small mom & pop stops.
It just seemed, to me, that the free coffee was an appreciation deal. Just like other trucks not drag racing you after you've given them room to merge onto the interstate.
Appreciation and respect is a two way street. Who gave up on it first?
buy $800.00 worth of fuel still get charged $2.89 for a cup of coffee

Anyone paying $2.89 for a cup of joe... wow! Love's still gives free coffee with a fill up, and if you don't get it that time, it is a "drink credit" on the Love's Reward card. Decent coffee, too. It is a good feeling to walk to the fuel desk and have the clerk tell you not to worry about paying for the coffee. Maybe this level of service is why Loves are popping up everywhere, even taking over some of the former Js - like in Clive, IA (west of Des Moines) and Oak Creek, WI. I don't expect or demand a free cup when I fuel (as if I was entitled to it), but it is a nice customer service gesture that sets some apart and above others.

First off.....Loves is a dump!
Now to the point, Loves took over the Flying J's because In order for the Pilot/Flying J merger to be approved some of the locations had to be sold off, Loves aquired them...It had nothing to do with their "level of service" which is horrible!
Just like the Flying J's have been ruined by Pilot so have the ones that were taken over by Loves been ruined.
Unless of course you like being treated like crap and only eat hot dogs, Subway, Dennys and Wendys....Then they're just fine.Joetro Thanks this. -
Would it not be cheaper to just make your own coffee in your truck tan buys it from the TS? Most of the Businesses do not care about the customer anymore just the bottom line and that sucks. The mom and pop places get it if you take care of the customer they will take care of you ten fold. Just my 2 cents.

Anger and bitterness?
How do you come to that conclusion? I have never liked Loves or Pilot and have rarely fueled at either one because to me they represent the demise of the full service truckstop where you could actually sit down in a coffee shop and eat and shoot the breeze with your friends.
The first time I went into a Loves the first thing that crossed my mind was that it reminded me of a 7-11 store, Not much there that you really want but you can get a crappy hot dog and a soda and then....Get out!
Small parking lots are futher proof that they don't want to serve us they just want us to spend money and get gone....Go sleep on an onramp!
I remember when truckstops were much better than they are now and when you would walk into the coffee shop and the food smelled like home cookin'. There are still some of these out here but they are few and far between.....Bummer!
I don't wear a chip on my shoulder....But it seems that in this world we have created for ourselves that if someone has an opinion and states it in plain language that someone else will decide that the person with the opinion is somehow a "bitter" angry person because they actually had the audacity to have and state an opinion on something rather than to sit back and embrace the mediocrity that seems to be acceptable to so many people these days.
Sorry that some of you missed the "good old days of trucking" Most of you probably would have enjoyed them....Some of you would have been scared!Joetro, truckerdave1970, 'olhand and 4 others Thank this.
