I don't know who is hauling freight out of Florida to Atlanta, Ga for $350, but you need to stop it.

I cant believe I just read all of this and to see what? People worried about the law stepping in and taking their job away. Or how the mega companies will not stop during a strike. This is pathetic. you want to know how to stop mega companies during a strike? You make them stop. Pull a fith wheel pin, cut airbags, block loading docks, block the fuel islands but for peat sake you dont just stop and park at a rest stop and expect lower fuel prices to handed over. Those big companies can still run if the fuel islands are free and clear! Quit watching Convoy and start watching Rambo, It's fight time if you want to be apart.

If you are partaking in this, I suggest you use your equipment to your advantage and do not go home and watch the news in hopes of seeing it unravel. Be that guy on camera that is getting wrestled to the ground by police. Be that guy who is having a "stand off" with athourites while blocking the fuel islands. Be the guy they want to catch. Their is more of us than their are of them.

Here is what you protest for, just one thing. Fight for oil drilling in our own country. We can do this, I will be. If you will be partaking in this event, change your signature to: Strike Arpril 1st 2011. And nothing else. If someone wants to start a new thread on it and where you will be striking go for it. But remember we dont hurt other drivers and this is what we are striking for. Spread the word this will be bigger than the disaster in Japan.

Pulling the 5th wheel release and cutting air bags is immature and dangerous behavior. Not a real smart idea to even suggest it.

I am curious as to how many of you have actually taken the time to write or call your congressman or senator? Frankly, I think that putting together a concentrated letter writing and telephone campaign would do more good to effect change than trying to get a group of fragmented drivers to come together for a strike. Everyone could write a letter or make a phone call. Not everyone can or will go on strike. Another thing that drivers could do is write to their local newspaper editors and media people. Explain how fuel prices are affecting your livelihood and your business. It is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

just a thought for those who say they cant park for a few days.
Take one week and do the posted speed limit, only work your 14 a day and stop # your 11. Not only drive the posted limit in town or on the open road, but do it from the granny lane only. The 'man' can't stop ya for doing the speed limit..
Freight will show up at the dock about 1 second after you do.
If shippers dont want to pay you more for hauling the freight, then just start by doing the work by the book, as per FMCSA, that should then bring reform to the industry.
    AND....
For those who say they cant park for 3-4 days, why???? At least 3-4 or more days each month you have to sit. Some of you also take a week or two each year for vacations. A large number of truck sit during the annual safety check week.....
Just something to thing to think about.....

What is pathetic is you suggesting to pull fifth wheel pins. You say we don't hurt other drivers. What happens if another driver is walking by that trailer that just collapsed pinning him to the trailer beside it? You picked the perfect day for a strike. April FOOLS day. Be that guy who is having the stand off? Yeah; that is real intelligent. You will make a lot of money in jail while you lose everything you own. This is exactly why a strike won't work. Too many goofballs coming up with crazy ideas that won't accomplish anything but making us look like a bunch of idiots. The last big trucking strike here amounted to lunatics shooting at trucks and tossing cement blocks off of overpasses or was you even born when that happened?

One reason the strike worked during the 1970's was due to the Teamsters. They were much stronger back then and they decided to get involve. Another was some of the things that some did to terrorize those who wanted to continue running. There were cinder blocks that were hung from over passes that were at windshield level for a big truck. It was hung too high for a 4 wheeler, but was at the right height to come through the windshield of a big truck. Drivers were shot at, trucks were vandalized that ran and steel bearings were thrown at windshields. Some were fearful of running. They didn't completely shut the trucks down, but by targeting some in the rust belt where the Teamsters were strongest they were able to essentially able to shut the trucks down. The country knew that commerce had stopped.

Today, you have many more owner operators and lease operators who don't think that they can afford to stop for a few days. They are running hard to keep away the repo man. They over extend themselves on payments and extra toys and feel that they can't stop, whether they believe in the concept or not.

The only way you could make this work is to force the trucks to stop. You will need to have a concentrated effort to involve the media. The problem here is that you don't know how the media or public will come down on the issue. They could come down against the "greedy" truck drivers. It is a shame that drivers don't stick together more than they do. I don't think that it is worth it if you must hurt drivers and destroy their equipment to make your point. And from what I have read, your talking points are not strong enough to garner enough attention to make this work. I think you would be much more effective if you worked on getting drivers to contact their elected representatives and the media. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. Most drivers don't even bother to vote, much less get involved in something that could really make a difference.
