Real simple lock for while you are asleep and can be bought at any discount store like WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes, motorcycle shops and hardware stores and simple to use
It's called a Tie Down strap!
It looks like a midget version of what flat bedders use to tie down their loads!

Buy the 12' one. The way to use it is put both ends through the armrests on the door and pull it tight. Problem solved of waking up with someone looking at you or holding a gun to your head!

If you wan, get a cow bell and hang it on the strap so you will be sure to wake up if it's jerked on so you can stand up and if the guy has a gun when you look at him he'll shoot you so you can't describe him!

If your seats swivel then turn them sideways with the back to the door and slide them back against the door. makes crawling in a tad bit hard and they can't swing them around as it's against the B Pillar and won't move. Cow bells might help here also!

Get a big man eating dog!
Keep a can of wasp spray not mace as mace will always blow back in your face and if you are a wuss you'll be on your knees while bad arse who has probably been maced several times and enjoys the burning sensation will be beating you senseless!

Do NOT have a full sized baseball bat as you can't get a good swing with it in a cab! Get a tire billy with the lead in the end or do it yourself!

Get a short 2 foot crowbar!

Stay away from knives unless you are a member or former member of the Marines, Army Infantry, Navy Seals, AF SAR group (or SG1) or have been trained in how to use a knife! They are not as easy as you might think from watching TV and movies! If you have not been trained, a knife can be taken away from you and turned against you ...well just like all the other things even a gun if you aren't lucky enough to put their lights out on the first swing!

Stand in the truck and look at all that crap you have in there. How much do you think it's all worth? If over $100 then go to a lock smith and have the truck relocked NOT rekeyed! Keep the original locks BUT pay for your own that are NOT brand related to FL, Paccar,Volvo Int or a fleet! When you get into the company yard hand the shop a spare for your truck and tell them that that's how it's going to be! You do not trust them or any of the other drivers or former drivers that still have the same key you do! Just show them the old locks and that you WILL have them exchanged when: you quit or they put you in a new truck.

Open your CB and engrave NOT mark with a marker your name address and phone numbers and even the last 4 of your social or put your CDL number with the words "This CB was stolen and NOT sold!"" REWARD!" Maybe the scum bag who stole it will get caught!

You can do the same with a laptop or have those tracker programs installed along with one that will take a picture of said scumbag! I've engraved in the battery compartment as I'll never sell the thing as I usually wear them out or use them untill the MB is so out dated my new wrist watch has more computing power! Besides my kids in 30 years will be able to sell it as an antique! I wish I still had my Commodore and Atari computers! They are worth a ton now!

There IS a newer program out that will sound an alarm if your laptop is stolen while in some public place and for some stupid reason you get up and go potty leaving it on the table! Yes people actually do things like this and then wonder why!! Also a GOOD password not some lame word only! A password with upper case, lower case letters, a few numbers, and even symbols seen above the numbers can be used! Yes if they want they can pull the HD out and wipe it and maybe get a system drivers CD with a OS but that's an iffy issue for a scumbag thief! Just make it hard to get into the bios!

These should give you a few hints on security! The cheapest and easiest is the ratchet strap tie down! You can also see them laying on the road and will only cost you a little 1/2 mike walk to go back and pick it up and hopefully it wasn't run over!
If you are real cheap then drag one of your chains up to the cab and use it the same way!

If they can't open the door they will break the window and crawl in and this is to your advantage! Beat them in the head with your tire billy, crow bar, ratchet pipe, fist, foot
or hold gun in their ear, nose, or mouth until the cops get there!Just do NOT chicken out if they start to grab it and pull the freaking trigger!

Like what happened in Tuscon AZ with Senator Grifford, a CCW was shot but then TACKLED the moron and didn't pull and shoot the scumbag and now we get to look at his stupid crap eating grin! If you got it flaunt it or use it!

Rollover, the only problem I can see with that tie down strap idea is what happens if your truck happens to catch on fire? I know it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

My hubby's truck caught on fire once (they fixed the jake but not the oil leak, and there was a wire that had a bare spot on it :biggrin_2551:) while he was driving. He was able to get the fire out.

Not many people question tire thumpers as potential weapons. I've never used a tire thumper to actually check tire pressures since I had an air gauge for that purpose, so my weapon is justified!

Unless they are real heavy sleepers it's not hard to pop the latch.
All you have to do is squeeze and pull with one hand and when slack, with the other hand unhook the s hook and get out of the truck.

If you are a real paniticky type then I would not even be in the truck but working at some other job as anyone trying to brake into the truck will reduce them into puddles of screams, OH MY Gods, smelly panties and tears so having all of the above in the cab with them would be pointless!

But I used that strap for many years when in certain areas!
Me, I know how to use all of the above and am not afraid to use any of them in my defence and have even gone to jail for using one in self defence!

The "victim" as the police saw it later or the one climbing up the side of the truck and into my window who got to eat the end of a wonderful 6" Model 13-2 S&W which is now a manhole cover, actually pressed charges against me and he freaking won in court! Go figure! I should have pulled the trigger but when he became paralyzed and actually peed and pooped his panties when it went between his lips, I stopped worrying about his manhood! Never again! The next sound he will here is the clicking of the hammer hitting the firing pin!

I like the Windshield Curtains, keeps them critters from looking in to see if someone is home, I put them up and a light on and go shopping and it looks like I'm in there. You can also pull a seatbealt around the handles. As much as I like privacy I also know that the old saying "Safety in Numbers" is helpful, It is less likely that a stranger will enter the LIONS DEN (truck stop) and try to break into a truck. But, It has happened and usually after someone stakes out a truck and knows your not home. I was told you can buy renters insurance for your valuables up to 20,000 by the GEEKO!

I'm sure most of the old-timers know this, but it never hurts to repeat it. Although the two mega-chain truckstops - TA/Petro and Pilot/Flying J. - have automated shower systems, most of the independents and Love's still have a shower list where they'll take your name, and company name or truck number and put it on the waiting list for a shower.

NEVER put your correct name, company name, or unit number on this list!

All a thief has to do is watch you head for the shower when your name is called, get a look at the list at the fuel desk, and they'll know what truck is going to probably be unoccupied for the next 30 minutes or so.

Don't make it any easier on a thief by inadvertently giving them information that they really don't need to know - this is a time when it's okay to tell a little white lie!

Thieves are opportunists and look for the quick easy score. The tiedown strap between the doors works very well. I also keep a box knife at bedside. First thing through the window or door gets cut! You can't keep mace in the truck in many juristictions but a aerosol can of window cleaner or Lysol spray burns the eyes like fire! The truck I drive is an ex swifty. I figure there are about 15,000 people out there with a key that works! If I really want to keep it-it does'nt go in the truck.
