Im am considering CRST for my driver training. I have heard good and bad stories. But havent heard from many women out there. My question is; how hard was it for you to gain acceptance in a mostly man based career. I have always wanted to drive a truck, but something or someone was standing in my way. Well those days are over and I am super excited. And believe it or not, my husband makes good money. But I never have and never will with my current education and skills. I see him getting more and more tired from his job and would love to take care of him for a change. But have to make the money and want to prove it to be profitable. I dont want to let him down since he is having a hard time with all this. So if I could just get some feedback on what to expect so I can be prepaired. I know it wont be easy, but I am a strong person.![]()

Even though I am a man myself, I wonder the same thing. I dress very nice and would be considered a "pretty" guy and because of this I get a lot of crap for being gay or a ### ( as far as sexual preference is concerned, I am straight). I haven't started yet, but when I do I will not take any of that from some 400lb, un-shaven, un-showered, un-intelligent red neck of a trucker. Lucky for us though, sexual harassment is something that is no longer tolerated in the work place; even in an industry like trucking. If you get any crap for being a women, don't be scared of being called a snitch or anything and just turn them in. The best we can do is work better than them and prove them wrong. Sorry to ramble and throw myself into the thread, just my 0.02.

I am a woman driver I stand up for myself and don't let other drivers bother you if you want to wear a ring on your finger and less men will hit on you if you are single

You can do better than CRST. You live in TN and many companies will hire out of TN.
KHharleymanjax Thanks this. -
Junior, you need to get the hell over yourself. I ain't a 400 lb anything but you come in my face with your attitude and you WILL get much less pretty in one big ####### hurry. Sexual harassment? You think every guy is lusting for your dumb ###? Buster, you best go see a head doctor before some less than 400 lb redneck opens your head up for you.
Get lost, we don't need your psycho crap.Lilbit, Bucktrucker, American-Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
if you "dress nice for a guy" and you THINK of yourself as "pretty"......then you had BETTER EXPECT cat calls and staring from others when you walk in a truck stop parking lot. you can complain and say all you wish about how you ain't gonna take no crap from some 400 pound guy...but if you "look the part, walk the part" you WILL BE "the part".....best you "dumb down" your "nice dressing, and pretty looks"...
and go ahead and make "sexual harassment" complaints, because the "other guy" can say you "came on to him".......you need to be aware of what you are dealing with in the world once you are away from the safety and sanctity of the home office......
what he said.......^^^^trucker_101 and mayoman69 Thank this. -
in my job as an instructor i get female students, just not in the numbers of the males..there is indeed that "old boy network" still around at some places, however, as long as you can do the job each and every day, SAFELY and with NO COMPLIANT's from the customers or management, you should be able to accomplish your goals. however, i might add that trucking (as you may have heard), is NOT an ordinary job, with ordinary hours. it can be physical at times. i personally know of now retired truckers who cannot walk easily, bend easily, or even grip a cup of coffee easily..
time, weather, stress, your health, take a toll on you i think faster than almost any other occupation out there. you say your husband makes a great pay...is he a trucker...?? if so, cant you see the time worn look on him..??
if your hubby is NOT a trucker, and he is worn out now, do you realistically think that trucking WILL NOT wear you down to the level he is at right now, in shirt time...??
i wish you well, do not fret over the "old boy's network", many employer's find that a disgusting attitude and they do deal with it on a case by case basis. but "today's women trucker's" are better or shall i say more respected now-a-days then they were 10, 15, 20 years ago.
good luck, best wishestrucker_101 Thanks this. -
I kinda take your remarks personally! No I'm not 400lbs and I do shower and I'm smarter then you because I don't show up on the trucker forums saying I'm gonna throw down with someone if they give me a look! No not all truckers look like Grizzly Adams! But don't go putting yourself out there! And if your getting into this business as I'm looking to do, then you better get used to getting those fancy clothes of yours dirty and not showering twice a day! It ain't happening!

If you want to drive a truck lady or not educate yourself first, but if its something you want go for it.
It will be much more easy if your husband would be behind you.
And to the GQ boy i have no coment for you
American-Trucker and mayoman69 Thank this. -
My instructor at school is a women, and she knows her stuff and she's told us her stories and she said that she was treated fairly because she showed up and let it be known she wasn't gonna take #### from anyone! You have to have yourself a bit of an edge about you, not an attitude like mister fancy clothes! And if you have problems get ahold of the right people. Just because your with a trainer or on your own doesn't mean your far from help! I myself haven't heard much about CRST but I do wish you lots of luck!
