Well I am now the lastest member of Fleet 50!
Whooohoo!
I think Harold was embarrassed to have to tell me that. He was apologizing all over.
Seems the other Stevens driver that was ahead of me confirmed the red mini van was driving like a crazy person. Apparently she cut him off too, but he didn't see what happened between me and her, so 50 lashes with an air line later...
Got out of dodge today. Headed for Amarillo and pick up a meat load headed for Anaheim and San Diego.
Sitting in Harrold TX tonight. Couldn't make it all the way before running out of my 14.
Sat thru the VDPD class (again) today. Learned the story of the student and trainer that made the U Turn and got them both fired.
After seeing the diagram and details, I'm not sure either should be in the gene pool, much less driving!
Lots of places to turn around, including just going around the block. But the worst of it all is they made the U Turn in front of a large truck lot. ACROSS THE STREET!
Trainer told the student to make the U Turn, then the truck got stuck in the mud with the trailer completely sideways to the street. Trainer then unhooked the truck from the trailer (leaving it blocking the entire street), proceeded to get it deeper in the mud. Called a wrecker, didn't pay them, and the wrecker operator called Stevens wanting to get paid.
I can't make this stuff up!
You all got the QC message on the sitting duck rule.
so a trainer stopped in front of the yard last night, his student got off. didn't even pull into the entry apron of the lot. He actually blocked Military Parkway for 12 minutes! You know there's no breakdown lane there and you can't get out of the traffic lane.
This was AFTER he had read the QC message.
Adrian was beside himself today over that one.
Well today was the last day for the winter workshop. Starting monday, it's the spring workshop.
Hope you all do well. I'll just drag my sorry Fleet 50 butt on down the road tomorrow and try and not cut anyone else off.

#### dude, what a crock of BS sticking you on Fleet 50.
-
(this too will pass)
my motto. -
I have been invited to attend Stevens Transport in Dallas. Is it as bad as some people say?
-
Don't know who "some people" are, but if I was to bet, I'll wage they applied, but weren't accepted, tried it at Stevens and couldn't cut it, or they're just passing along rumors they have heard.
First off and most important to realize is Stevens is a training company. Their whole purpose is to train new drivers. While there are some of us that have been there a while, most move on in the first two years.
That's not because Stevens isn't good, but Stevens first priority is to train new drivers. As such, they have many rules that make sense for new drivers but may not be applicable to experienced drivers.
An example of that is the trucks are governed at 62mph. Many experience drivers complain about this, either because they don't want to be governed or because they have to follow governed trucks on the highway.
A governed truck gives an inexperienced driver more time to make critical decisions.
Stevens is very regimented. There are processes you must follow, but these build good habits that last a lifetime.
An example is they constantly preach the 'six second rule'. This simply says to keep a minimum of six seconds between you and the driver in front of you.
Purely safety minded. Talk with many former Stevens drivers and they will laugh and tell you, "oh, yea...six seconds! I STILL follow that one!"
If you are a person that doesn't want to follow rules, Stevens isn't for you.
If you are one willing to follow procedures and rules, Stevens can train you to be an excellent driver. After completing two years at Stevens, there isn't a company out there that won't want you.
If you are interested in starting your driving career with a company that will train you right, instill good values and instruct you to be an excellent driver, then consider Stevens. They are excellent. -
yes it too will pass... but sometimes there is no justice... The driver of the mini van needs to go to driving school... She must have Stevens on speed dial too!!!!
Stopped in Hagerstown MD today, out of hours, so I can't make it down to Upper Marlboro until the wee hours of the morning...Oh well, no traffic on a sunday morning, before the sun rises..
Emusified, were you a salesman in a former incarnation? You do know what to say to the newbies... and I agree with the truth you state. -
So what exactly is Fleet 50 anyways?
-
Yaa I wanna know about the fleet 50 to? Sitting in Fernly NV right now waitting for Donner pass to open back up. Supose to be in Sacramento in the AM. If it doesn't open soon I might run out of time. Decisions decisions. I want to make sure I make it cause I have a pre plan to pick up in Sac and head to Washington. Haven't been to Wash yet! Hope everyone else is having a good weekend!!.
-
Fleet 50, where the bad boys go to be watched, tracked, and baby set more. Emulsified does not deserve fleet 50. Drivers who just don't get it, do, it is an additional training fleet.
-
Wow, emul on fleet 50.... Don't ya love getting punished for others' mistakes? Sry to hear all this. But hey same ol' ____ different day right?
