    Depending on the felony, may be alright after 10 years. but drugs or stealing i think you will be out of luck. also forget about ever going to canada. That was a first class school taking money from you than telling you the truth...best of luck to you

    Why cant we all just get along and quit breaking the law? I didnt read the whole thread so Im going to ask if he/she didnt or did tell us already! What was the felony for? I have a clean criminal background and clean MVR but if you want to work then haul belly dump. Alot of these companies are ma pa operations and they will hire an escapee on the run* lol. I carry a lap top in my truck and I fear other belly dumpers are going to steal it, thats how bad it is in South Texas bahahaha!

    Felony convictions may or may not affect your ability to get a driving job. Several things matter:
    1. Was yours a violent felony or non-violent?
    2. How long ago was it? Some companies allow felons to work after time has passed.
    3. can you get a TWIC? Some companies assume you're OK if you pass the TWIC investigation.

    You can also start with a more local company, a construction company or other smaller companies that are looser in hiring practices. After you get a good record for a year or two, it's easier to move to larger companies.

    I would never lie on a app.... its one thing if you are a ex con...but also a liar will do nothing but hurt you. I know for a fact the company i work for will never hire a driver with a felony..its simple..they dont want to trust a rig with high dollar freight to a con.. also they never run the back ground check till you are sitting in front of them...also we get drug tested at least monthly if not more...

    I am not a driver or even play one on TV.
    (I have a friend who is driving for someone now.)
    Thank you all for your contributions to this thread.
    Eye opening and yes, sometimes hilarious (rerun!).

    May I ask what a TWIC is and what DAC means?

    I'm not reading 200 posts to see if this has been mentioned. Probably has. But why don't you try to get a pardon. If that fails it is posible to have a higher security put on it. This means an ordinary employer cannot get your record but an employer with a higher rating such as law enforcement, ambulance, school bus etc.. I still would avoid crossing international borders.

    DAC is now Hireright. It's a reporting agency that trucking companies report to. Not all companies report to it or use it when hiring. It does cost money to use it. A driver can get a free copy of their report each year.

    TWIC, I don't know as much about, just that is has to do with ports.

    TWIC=Transportation Worker Identification Credential...
    The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is a vital security measure that will ensure individuals who pose a threat do not gain unescorted access to secure areas of the nation's maritime transportation system.
