I met a guy in Tunnel Hill who went out for only one week with a trainer to verify his abilities. You may be able to swing something like that.

Seems that I sit a lot. even if I have a ppln, it takes them hours sometimes to send me the load info. Communication is definitely an issue in my 2+ years at USX.

Man it seemes to me youd be a great fit with alot of outfits. Why you hanging their ? Lifes to short. Just Wondering

NYC and LI are not required, you can opt out of them as well as Canada.
New HOS are not so much an issue now as most of the fleet is already on e-logs and the rest will be very soon so the driver-tech keeps your logs for you(when it works right LOL but they are getting more dependable)
The OKC terminal ceased operations in Dec 2008 a week after I completed orientation there. They had the shop(1 shift) and drop yard open for about a year after but I have since heard it was closed as well. It was a hassle for a while as the gate closed at 6PM and everyone had to be out by then.
Most of the new trucks are now Super 10 grass burners(no stacks) The shops I have been in lately(8 in the last 3 months, with the same problem) have all said that they are phasing out the autoshifts due to too many maintenance problems. Incidentally, my recurring issue with this "08 Volvo was not a trans related issue. Those they pretty much know how to fix. LOL
Hope this helps. -
I meant to add one other thing and forgot to mention it. You seem in good health even withthe low back issues. There is one thing that you should know. On your first day of orientation, during your physical, you will be asked to carry a milk crate with, I think, 80 lbs of weight. could be 50 but I am not sure. You will wlak down the hall and back then set it on a waist high shelf. Then take it and put it on an eye level shelf. If you can't do this you will not pass the physical. Also, at least at Tunnel Hill you have to duck walk. They stretch a rope about 42" off the ground and 1' from the wall. you have to duck walk under this rope without touching it, the wall or the floor, no hands for balance. no 3 points of contact. If you cannot do this you will be sent home. I have seen guys 6'5" 250 lbs who were in great shape but could not get low enough to keep their back or head from touching that rope. Needless to say these BIG guys were mad when the left to go home.

Thanks for the heads-up on the OKC terminal. It did look pretty weird there in 2009....bunch of trucks sitting around with no activity. I haven't looked over there lately. Thanks for the other info as well. I've driven more Macks than anything else and I never had many problems with them. Although this was before they started making trucks with the new specs for lower emissions(2002 ?). I remember all the companies were afraid of buying them and were holding out to see how they performed. I guess I've never realized they were even making trucks without stacks, and using "grass-burners", as you called them. I've read over the new Hours of Service laws that went into effect in 2003 and they don't seem as complicated as the old Rules...but one thing occurred to me...if you stop and take a 2 hour nap, you screw yourself because it still counts as 2 hours of your 14 total for the day. It didn't used to do that under the old Rules. -
i cant wait to go to US EXPRESS I have been driving semi for about 2 years.what is the starting pay for teams for starting out its 48
what about over a year? -
Right now, USX is starting all teams at the top of the pay scale. With Hazmat endorsement that is .48 split plus a $2500 (each) sign on bonus.

Did they not go over your dac report with you before you went to orientation? I just talked to Doras today and she enlightened me about my dac report..there is an non-preventable accident on mine as well from 2009. She never said anything about getting the report...now I am concerned, will call recruiter tomorrow.
