My husband worked for Heartland for 2 years and he had more than one issue with them. Besides not paying for tolls when they route you on a toll road, they shave miles, never get you home and treat you like crap! The dispatcher asked my husband if he wanted to be home for Christmas!! He said do you want to be home for the holiday and the dispatcher replied Yes of course. My husband said why do you think I'm any different. You also freeze to death in the winter and sweat to death in the summer. The truck temps are set at 40 in the winter and 80 in the summer! You also are not allowed to have anything in your truck that is a heat source. that means no pans or coffee makers. This is an issue because you have to sleep at the customers and no bathrooms or food is available to you. My husband has drove for 22 years and has never been treated so bad!! I do not recommend this company for anyone!!

Some of these drivers do get what they have coming, they pay .45 cpm or whatever, looks good from the outside until you actually do some research and realize the trucks are garbage, no detention pay, no layover pay, no orientation pay and to top it off you can earn a maximum of 2 weeks vacation and even that takes 7 years.

I drove out of Olive Branch,Ms. for Heartland. It seemed like a good offer .42 cpm., but they donot pay any accessorial pay. They run rand-mcnally miles. I was not happy working for this out fit and I would not recomend their Olive Branch,Ms. terminal to any of you "Sons" who are from the midwest.

Must be a difference with terminals. Or something.

Yes, trucks are set to only idle when temp is below 45 or above 75. I have not had many issues with it. On the cold side I am fine, but on the warm season time it is an issue at times when you have to sleep during the day. Gets a little warm.
Not an issue when other trucks are not around. But the problem is trying to sleep with the bunk windows open and a truck running next to yours. You get ALLOT of heat from them.

They do not pay accessory pay. Bothers me, but I get detained rarely. So not as large an issue as it could be.

Tolls are not really an issue when routed on them for me. I have ez-pass. So if they route me on it then it will be covered. If they do not approve it then I will not take it. Since I do not want to pay for it myself.

I get home most weekends for at least a restart. But most of the time I am home 44 hours or so. I would like to be able to plan my weekends better, but you never know you will be home till Thursday or Friday.

Short miles suck. You will loose about 8% per week. Not an issue with a full OTR long haul company, since they short off each end some. But since Heartland is short to Med haul it adds up fast when you take 25 miles off each end of a 300 mile load.

Nope, no inverters or cooking appliances.

Trucks are fairly bare bones when it comes to storage. But they are in VERY good condition. As are the trailers. I doubt that any company in the industry maintains equipment any better, another company may match them but not exceed.

They are not the best, but nowhere near the worst company around.

umm most all companies have silly policies ma'am, most drivers jus go ahead and do what's needed to survive comfortably and ignore policy. Advise your veteran driver husband to do the same and if needed, defend his reasoning as needed.

The past 3 days I've woke up freezing, the way heai has set these new trucks is very dicky, no apu's, set up on a idle program, I believe it's between 55 and 72, it won't idle at all, which isn't bad as long as there's no sun at all, it's 36 now, it idles without having to push the clutch in, in the 5 minute time period, but then as u idle and once the idle percentage gets over 25%, your speed drops from 64mph to 62mph, and once it gets over 40% from 62mph to 60mph. Is running down the road # 60 bad?! Would the owner, do it??? The difference between 65 to 60, in 10 hrs of driving, is 50 more miles, or a better point 50 less minutes of driving, when tired, I'd rather get somewhere a little sooner then later!!!
Second point, tolls I understand all companies that pay better cpm, need to save on other parts of business, but explain this, I had a pu once in pa, pp pu in Springdale Pa, I-76 (toll) was ok'd from exit 200something to exit 75, now if all you drivers know where Springdale is located, those who don't look it up in your atlas, there's an exit 20some miles further east that drops you off like "2" miles from Springdale!!! Didn't make sense to me!!!
