Freight Rates

$.02?!? - You have go to be kidding! When you figure the cost of air, wear and tear on your brain, asprin for the headaches and then paying yourself you are going to go broke if you are only charging $.02. It is people like you 'olhand that make it hard for people like me to get $.05 for my thoughts. You must not be a true O/O of your brain and one of those guys that has leased his brain out to another head.

 

It wouldn't matter if I got a dime--I'd just leave it in my change can in the truck--and one of the grandkids would just clean it out for me anyway--and I don't wanna spoil em Y'know

 

Oh man, that's what grand kids are for. I can't wait to have em (but I can wait till my 21 and 18 year old get a bit older).

 

I do understand where you're coming from Olhand...there certainly is a reason why transcore is doing it. A BRAINWASHING reason I would say... for dummies to swallow and justify a broker's rip off rate.
If THAT is an everage - then many of us MUST be pulling many loads for around 50 cpm. In spite we both know there are some idiots out here, that still sounds quite unbelievable...even if they literally stole fuel, equipment and everything else .

They take the rates that brokers post as what they paid. So most probably don't post and the ones that do likely low ball.

Have you ever noticed on ITS how the average rate that is reported by the broker is always less than the average rates that are posted by the carrier.

Then there are reports that are reliable that come from data collected from the rate paid by the customer. Very few markets last year paid less than $1.50 + FSC (and this includes Florida and Texas).

 

I just got 2.75 from kansas city,mo to waco tx. Normally i wouldn't go to tx, but that was a good rate for me. Now , comming out is a big diffence.

 

I would consider only rates paid by the customer as relevant. And we all drivers should have access to that information...and then no carrier shoud ever accept less than let's say 80%.
We the drivers have let it all gotten screwed up...WE should be those who set the rates for us and not the brokers. Brokers say "customer is not willing to pay more"... really? do we come to the truck stop and say how much are we willing to pay for the fuel? or a repair? or...you name it.
I quite often tell broker to tell customer how I hope his crap in the warehouse gets rotten if he is not willing to pay a reasonable rate.

 

WOW there are PO loads moving empty trailers around paying $2+ a mile and these brokers will call wanting me to take my trailer go get it loaded and drag the heavy ##### 30k pound load get it unloaded for $1.70 and I guess some of them cant read I post my truck at $2 nothing less. I know you have all these dumb #$$ pulling freight for a buck and a quarter and sitting in the truck stop complaining about the talks of them opening the border and how rate will be cut. I had one call me wanting me to go all the way to CA 2254 miles for $3400 I told her make it $4400 and I might can do it she countered offered $3600 nope cant do it for that she tole me she would have to call and see if she can get that and call me back never heard from her again. If drivers would just start turning down these cheap rates they will go up because the freight have to be moved. You can even watch the rates go up on some loads as the deadline draws close

I would never haul $1.25/m freight,
there are O/O' S that haul this all the time.. that is problem 1 .

Problem 2 is the big fleets get
$5-$6/ m or more in one direction....then take $1.25/m freight "back" to that higher paying freight to do it all over again.

That is ,in my opinion ,
why these cheap freight "brokers" exist.

Then , the majority of brokers think everyone should accept $1.25/m,
(read: they make more $ by getting someone to haul it cheaply) .

The broker or really "salesperson" job is to move that freight at the absolute lowest price...
and some of these not knowing O/O's don't see that or understand it ...
or don't care...

You sure you'd be able to reload in CA at the similar or better rate? If not 4400 is way not enough.
I am always looking at the bigger picture...at least as a round trip.
I can take a reload even for free for the same broker if he/she is willing to pay $4.50/mile on the first one.
When I give my quote to a broker it is at least $2.15 on ALL empty an loaded miles on the round trip.
Backhaul at 1 buck?...No problem - just pay me 3.5 to get there.
