Now is the best time to start calling the 800 numbers and asking about a job with on the job training. Small to medium Fleets can and do hire newbees. Chicago will have lots of companies. Ask for a 5 -6 week driver program. Do not ....I repeat do not fall for the scam that you must work out 50,000 miles at 10 to 15 cent per mile and be a team driver after orientation and training (Dumb and Dumber program). I Soloed after 4 weeks at SRT. The training programs help build your endurence, you need to lean how to safely drive a big truck for 10 hours per shift. The rest will be a piece of cake!
