I have brokers calling me all the time offering those $5-6/mile loads at below 2 bucks trying to send me to a 1.25 or cheaper area. When I tell them I would need over 3 bucks on that one, they call me openly crazy. They dare to openly ask me what am I smoking or I should send my water for analisys. Yeah...very funny guys. hahaha
And now someone here in some other post tells me yesterday how brokers have a hard job and that I should pay them more respect. Hmm...!!??
All those 1.25-ers made them this arrogant.
My phylosophy...Respect me and my family by paying more fair, more reasonable rate and will be happy to respect in return and do more business with the same broker.

Thats why I told her I might can do it for that I never except loads on the first call unless I know the rates coming back out. Its bout like having sex on you first date you'll never know what you will pull back out with. Been learning that the hard way yes both Though I was doing good Getting $2800 for 1100 miles but then had to deadhead 200 back to Ga to get something decent And I dont believe in backhaul you can pay me $5 a mile out I am still looking for $2 back I might do it for $1.75 but will never ever load my trailer for a buck. Just the other day I turned down $1.54 out of harrisonburg va to NC and deadheaded to NC. Once you haul cheap they put you on the cheap list. Its business I can't go in the Petro and tell them I'm only gonna pay $2.79 a gallon because its a backhaul or go to the tire dealer and tell them to throw a set of backhaul tires on. Give me a backhaul lube job. I have yet to pay for repairs at backhaul rates. Brokers came up with the word backhaul to give you cheap rates. There is even a broker cald Backhaul (not planing on calling them) Now I dont know a lot I am still learning and the Folks on this board and a few friends have taugh me a lot about this business To that I SAY THANKS Because before this board my ideal as an O/O was I was my own boss and I do what the F. I want to. My truck my trailer I tell the brokers and shipper what to do Yep I had all these dumb Ideals long ago.

I share your opinion, thanks. When i mentioned "backhaul" at 0 - 1 buck, I also mentioned "FOR THE SAME" broker. Because in that case I am negotiating for a package of two loads. Other than that, I agree with you.

Now when I said in the other thread that you need to understand that brokers have a hard job and you have to treat them with respect I was clearly talking about the way some people have been posting about all the abuse taken and given to brokers. Then I was "schooled" in how an O/O should take abuse from a bottom feeder to have them call later with the rate you need.

So now this pillar of the trucking community saved the bacon of a bottom feeder broker that treated him with disrespect on the first call.

Some weeks I talk to 40-50 brokers and it is rare that I get treated with the disrepect that seems to seek some people out. But then I don't take it personally that they can't meet my rate, wish them luck and hang-up.

Just like any business there are good and bad brokers. But the position of a broker is vital in our business. Many companies could not afford to have the job done in house.

Just because a broker has a load at a rate that seems like an insult it does not mean that they are keeping 50% or more. There are many reasons that they could be working on a load at a low rate. And to allienate what may be a good broker because you want to get in a pissing contest over the state of the industry is a fools errand.

I am glad some people have it all figured out and are running loads at $5-$6 a mile.
