Now Mr. Monkey why would you want to bring up the 70 hour rule while discussing the 11 & 14? Now if you really want to know, start a new thread:yes2557::biggrin_255:

Oh honey! I know how you guys feel every day:biggrin_2554:

Now understand that the guy is coming to make sure I am making sure you are doing the right thing. Guess what this guy has? He has all the information about you and your logs??? HMMMM Guess what that means? I get to prove that I discussed anything wrong with your logs (Which I hope I have, I think I have??) and he will nit pick the crap out of your logs/documents to make sure you are logging what you are doing. If you aren't that brings up 1,000 more questions that I have to answer. Now if you knew/know me, you would know I hate 100 ?'s let alone 1,000. Now they don';t like exscuses. They could care less the system crashed and we have no logs on the drivers and must depend on the drivers to re mail them? HMMM> Driver mad at us and DOT getting on our butt, but guess what I had no control over that. Not really my issue, but do you get my point? Regardless there is 1)NO EXSCUSES 2) I must explain why I let you get by with what you did. Now usually I have an answer, will they accept the answer??? Darn I hope so! I have put faith in my employee's and I have put faith they did their job right, wonder why I am scared? I put my faith in others, not just me:biggrin_25521: Anything goes wrong, guess who is to blame? The manager, ME! Guess who gets fired to make the "company" look better, ME! Even though I could go on for hours about what I really wanted to do about this and that, it doesn't matter! Point is, I will pass (I HOPE:biggrin_25522:) and then I have to worry, hey will they get rid of me cause they don't have to worry about an audit again for 2 years? I would rather think hey they need me and appreciate my work, but i guess I am never told that to know that. I just worry cause that is me, I like to do good at what I do!
Ok I rambled everyone sorry, just want you to see what a log auditor goes through prior to an internal dot audit, which is based on truck drivers!

IT'S SCARY! JUST AS SCARED AS YOU ARE WHEN YOU SEE THEM GUYS, BUT MILLION TIMES WORSE , in my humble opinion!:biggrin_2552:

I know you are:biggrin_255: I am playing back! Start a new thread though, keeps the convo going in the regulations board, I am tired of starting them all:yes2557: I can answer the question just want to keep focused on me for a change:biggrin_25519:

As you can see my response above I am very anxious, nervous, bitter, etc. So you know just ignore me if I say something stupid or seem snippy. I am just nervous to raise 3 kids with no job!

NO NO NO! I hope I haven't answered this already!

Once you enter lines 3 or 4 after a full 10 hour break or longer your 14 hour clock is ticking. EVERYTHING counts against that 14 hour rule! EVERYTHING!
There is one exception to extend your 14 hour rule and that is called split breaking. To extend the 14 hour rule you must have 8 hours in the "SLEEPER".

Now understand what I am saying is the way you log it must be true and accurate. If you are not on the truck and you are free to do what you want that is "line 1; off duty). If your body is in the sleeper you log "in the sleeper" if you are behind the wheel ou want to log "line 3" if you are working, but not driving you must log line 4, no you don't get paid (usually, some companies do).

Anytime at a customer (loading/unloading) you are going to be either Lines 2 or 4. Now save your 70 hour rule by going to the sleeper anytime you possibily can/legally. If the customer says hey it will take 1 hour to load you would you mind leaving the dock, say sure not a problem and go to your sleeper and read a book, talk to me :) or whatever, just go to the sleeper so you can save on the 70 hour.

Ok I hope this helps clarify some things! Split breaking is very easy, but you must study my sheets to make sure you understand it and practice until you get it (that'what I did). The most important thing to do is log it as you do it and try very hard to be perfect on running the legal hours and making sure you log line 4 time when working but not driving and DON'T SPEED (Tough, I now).

Good luck, I hope this helps! I know I rambled, but I wanted to make sure you understand the whole concept of the rules and what lines 1,2,3 & 4 meant.

Please ask any questions and try hard to understand before your trainer trains you so you can tell me if we disagree and I will show you how to correct him or tell you I am wrong.

TO log off duty under a load technically the compnay must give you permission to log it as off duty. The regs state's it must be given prior to disptch though. We have always pre-printed it on the back of a Physical card, road test etc to make it easier on the drivers.:biggrin_25519:

Are you audited every two years, Logs? It seems that some companies are never audited.
