Fellas and gals,
This be a stern warning. Never walk behind a backing truck. even if it is to warn the driver. best to run around to the front and wave arms like mad.

The guy was backing into a spot where there was already a truck in place?
-
It was a pretty sad day as this guy was on my board. My fleet manager said he was a good guy.
My fleet manager didn't follow up on details but he seemed to indicate it was a trainer and trainee situation.
The article seems to paint the picture of another driver attempting to warn the guy who was backing. That the backer had no idea the other guy entered the situation.
I will just say that if someone is spotting me, be it a trainee or some random helpful driver, I don't move my truck unless I see him thru a window or windshield. Last resort in my mirror.
We had another guy dragged thru a truck stop parking lot a month or two ago. He survived, but spent a while in the hospital recovering from surgery to stop the internal bleeding.
Everyone be careful out there.Injun Thanks this. -
I do not see how in the world a driver can let himself be run over. What amount of common sense does it take to be alert when you are behind a vehicle for any reason whether it's moving or stopped? I can't understand these accidents. Prayers for the family.

Very sad, my prayers goes out to family!

Condolences to this young man's family! I just don't get it.... why would you ever stand or walk into in the travel path of any moving vehicle? Especially one backing? I gotta ask this though..... Why wouldn't or didn't the driver stop and get out and look before he started backing in a crowded terminal, warehouse, or distribution center?
I've heard and read more than one driver say..... Ya gotta open those doors anyway! So take the time walk around and look, if not to just assess the situation but to stretch and get some fresh air and make sure the blood's flowing and you're alert.
Gotta be tough on the trucker too.... he's got to feel bad about this. He's surely got to be blaming himself. -
I too offer my prayers and thoughts too the family, onto the bright side, wondering even if the driver had his cb on woulda made a diff too or if driver -trainer , a small two hand cb radios, i guess when i was traing, i always carry those cans of air blast they call em air horn sorry , they work good too stop a big truck, unless they got there rap up so loud they cant hear my little air horn

I'm just about ready to take to wearing my yellow safety vest any time I'm walking around a truckstop or shipper/receiver...this is just too sad.
drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
Most Kroger's require a safety vest to be worn on property.. It's supposed to prevent things like this from happening.
My thoughts and prayers for both drivers. -
THIS KROGER DC IS AN 'EFFIN DEATH TRAP....
I'm surprised that this hasn't happened before - they provide parking in a dimly-lit overcrowded lot, but there are narrow docks, hardly any room to manuever in there that would challenge the most sprited of drivers...dockside lighting is minimal (when they work) fog and rain....yard goats who think that place is the Indy 500 - I'm surprised no one has been slaughtered by one of them in there, the way they drive!
Plus, the security, window-people and yard drivers do not give a crap about truck drivers - rude and nasty - every single one of them...
I hope they get the #### sued out of them...
My condolences to the family of this Prime driver...
Travelinman Thanks this.
