Hi,
My husband, (Chris), is on the road w/May Trucking Trainer.
Our goal is to be team drivers. I was studying my CDL's to get my permit then once I drove a while with Chris I would enroll in trucking school.
But Chris' trainer told him that I "Can't have CDL while riding w/Chris, to wait to take the test"
Has anyone ever heard of this?
Any feed back will be appreciated!! -
Commercial Driver Instruction Permit driving restrictions
After you have been issued a CDIP:
- You must be accompanied by another driver holding a CDL when you drive a commercial vehicle. The driver who accompanies you must:
- Hold a CDL that is valid for the type of commercial vehicle you are driving.
- Have at least 2 years' experience driving the type of commercial vehicle you are driving.
- Have at least 5 years' total driving experience.
- Occupy the seat beside you for the purpose of giving instruction.
- You can't operate any commercial vehicle classified or placarded for hazardous materials.
- You must be accompanied by another driver holding a CDL when you drive a commercial vehicle. The driver who accompanies you must:

Also, may will not hire you if you do not have a cdl. Once you pass school and get your cdl they may let your husband train you. I'm not sure if he has to wait the required time before he can train or not. Best thing would be to call them at brooks and ask.

May did tell Chris that once I was hired on w/them that he could train me on the road.
Thnx B.A.D.,so much, for your helpful feedback! -
As soon as he solos out he is eligible to take a passenger. Just make sure he gets the passenger ride along release form and lets his DM know about it. As long as you are not driving, you can go out as long as you like.

As long as your NOT driving or employed by May, you should be able to ride with him. As Efon said, be sure you get the release form from his DM. When i took my wife with me over a Thanksgiving holiday it was no problem, but i had to pay for some type of insurence for her
(came out of my check).

Does May have any customers in Ohio ? along I-70 ! Was thinking of app. with them , but if theres no freight , Ill never get home.
-
Sure they have customers in Ohio, but no terminal any where
close. Chances are that they do not hire out of that area because of their in-ability to get you home.
But i would still call the recruiting office in Brooks Or. to get the OFFICAL word from HQ...
