Good afternoon gentlemen/women. I am a relatively new driver (8 months). It has taken almost 28 years of other employment careers to finally be able to put the pieces together to be able to afford to take a chance on a career change to trucking. Probably the wrong timing based on the economy, but I still wish to give this my best shot. I read the USA site posts far more than the CDN sites. I live in a border town and travel to the USA far more than in Canada. I have been fortunate to find work relatively easily. I've changed companies 4 times already (weeding out the bad). The money is the worst I have ever made but the job is far more "freeing" than any I have had. I very much enjoy the social aspects of trucking. Sure, you get the whiners, complainers and the doomsday crowd... but I have had many CB introductions and conversations with drivers who have a lot of life to share. One of my first experiences was having a smoke at 3:30 am outside a Flying J. First it was just me...and after a few minutes the crowd grew to 8 or 9 drivers standing around gabbing. Some good talk, some bad, but all were interesting to meet. I look forward to a better economy and a chance to drive most of the USA. I hope to meet the "best of trucking" on the road and radio in the future.
