Anyone can do a Google search on "truck driving school scams" and see pages, and pages of complaints and websites warning people about the scams that these trucking company's are using to exploit people for profit.

Why do you think trucking companies offer training in the first place? I don't think they do this because they want to improve the lives of thousands of unemployed people that want a "career". They do it because it's highly profitable to keep a rotating door spinning new drivers in and out of their company to avoid paying experienced drivers higher wages.

Why pay an experienced driver .40 a mile when you can just pay .32 a mile a new driver that is bonded to you by contract and still doesn't know anything yet.

So they exploit new drivers twice then,
#1 rotating out their experienced drivers to avoid paying higher wages,
#2 then profiting from the school and the lower wages of the rookie.

If you need more evidence then just check the out www.bbb.com better business bureau to see the low scores and complaints all these trucking schools have.

Well I just want to thank you guys for making me realize how bad of idea it would be to sign a "driver commitment"

Sign a driver commitment contract? ARE YOU SERIOUS? :biggrin_25523:

Wow, I've never heard this before about CRE, despite there being a gillion threads...

What's your point? Really? I'm not going to defend CRE, but what's your point? There's a bunch of threads here explaining the perils of CRE.

So you lump every company into the same basket as CRE? Really???

All you really want is someone to agree with you so you can feel good about complaining. You want others to rally behind your argument so you can justify not having a way into the trucking industry so you can continue to complain...just be honest about it so we can kill this thread off and get on with more important things besides old hat.

So why do so many smaller trucking companies require so much experience then?

Why is it most of the truck driving companies require you to have 1 year of experience OTR?

Is that because the smaller trucking company's can't afford to pay the insurance rates on a new driver?

Personally I think I should be able to be able to get my license on my own and do my own thing, but I can't so that's what makes it all a scam.

So the insurance company's are really the one's at fault here for not insuring new drivers which denies people like me opportunity from working.

You CAN get your license on your own - that's been outlined for you here several times.

You CAN get your own insurance, but it will be sky-high, if you can get it at all, based on a new licensee and no driving experience.

The insurance companies aren't at fault for protecting themselves from someone with NO experience, NO license, and NO way to evaluate their risk.

And yes, smaller companies can't afford the insurance premiums on a newbie or someone with a poor driving record. Big companies can, because they insure hundreds or even thousands with one company.

Its because people like you who think that anyone can just jump into an 80,000-pound truck and hammer down the road and "do their own thing" are dangerous to themselves, and everyone else on the highway. The statistics bear this out. The insurance companies are the gate-keepers - and the financial consequences to the carriers of any size when someone with little or no experience kills an entire family because of their negligence and inexperience are severe. To a smaller company the consequences are catastrophic.

You seem to think this is some kind of game, and you're being picked on. The consequences are deadly serious, and you don't get a second chance to fix your mistakes. That's why there are hurdles to getting in - because there have been too many tragic "accidents" over the years, and the public demands accountability from us now.

What makes this career different from any other?

Perhaps You just want to walk in to a bank and apply for branch manager, or better yet, a higher position at the headquarters, because you want to do your own thing? Without the proper education (which will cost you) there's no way!

Or maybe you want to go be shop forman/manager for the busiest GM dealership in the area. Just becuase you bought yourself some craftsman tools and a nice box and you want to do your own thing? Again, UTI or similar schools will happily train you for a position like that, for a price.

As I said before, there are not many "career" jobs that you can walk in and do your own thing.

I want to thank you hoobilly.
Thank you for not signing anything that will put you behind the wheel in a big truck.
Your attitude and 80,000 lbs roaring down the road scares me.
    :biggrin_25524:

What are you saying now? That you were considering taking this route (driver commitment, driving school scam) and you were convinced otherwise?
    Hmm, interesting turn of events.
considering the title of this thread.
Can you put into words what you are trying to accomplish here?
