What is the Blood Alcohol content limit for cmvs? I heard it cant be no more than 0.04 but I heard saturday it was a zero tolerance. Im asking cause Im drinking some cold brew right now just like every night and I will go to work later today since the truck needs maitnence and wiring problems on the trailer to be fixed and boss has no other trucks available! Thanks. This can save me my CDL and job that I need for child support! :biggrin_2552:

.04 is the limit but you are also required to have not consumed any alcoholic beverages for a minimum of 4 hours prior to operating a CMV.

Not to sound like a jerk--BUT--it really does not matter--if you have been drinking at all-don't drive--especially your big truck--it isn't worth the aggravation--and god forbid something stupid happens--once the lawyers get involved you are toast!
IMHO--many drivers have been put in that position--was supposed to be off and got called in on a day off etc..--just be honest--drinking a beer on your day off isn't illegal--so tell the boss/dispatch etc--hey if I'd like to help--but I am supposed to be off and just opened my 3d beer(or whatever)--course if you are really like your job and want to help--suggest you could--stop and get some rest--and be ready to go in x amount of hours to clear your system--

you cannot have any alcohol in your system while performing any safety function related to the vehicle , if you get a smart lawyer/DA your pre trip is considered a safety related function and if you have any in your system your fried . this is how they get you in Illinios . IMo zero tolerance at all times . is a beer worth your job ?

when I would smell any alcohol on my drivers breath I would tell them they have 2 choices , a day off ( sick day or no pay) or a trip to the clinic and if you punch in its to the clinic . I would rather have them loose a days pay vs there license , and when they would call in they would be honest with me about it . ( I ussually told them if they had a function or party over the weekend to take the monday off and I wouldn't take work on the monday following a holiday weekend for this reason )

The LTL co I work for has a policy of no drinking 12 hours before a shift. It's stern but fair.

Our company has a no alcohol 4 hours prior to on duty policy....but 99% of cases of operating a CMV with any percentage of alcohol in your system, even 0.01, do not end well for the driver.

24 hrs? Really? Dinner out with the wife at a nice place and leaving in the morning for work? At 290 lbs, having 2 drinks would be worn off by 9 pm... NOTHING in the system... not leaving until in the morning... what kind of "sky is falling" mentality is it that thinks people shouldn't have a drink for 24 hours prior?? Which, by the way, is several times greater than what DOT dictates..

What mentality states any alcohol of any kind,no matter what amount it is,while driving a commercial vehicle is o/k.It might be worn off as far as you can tell, but no it is not totally out of your system at this point. Are you legally drunk,no,do you still have alcohol in your system?Probably, love to be the lawyer in your case.
