Because I miss talking with the drivers! There was plenty of garbage on the CB when I drove too. Where we live, it wouldn't be like the crap you get around the bigger cities anyway. A few grain haulers, and probably a few of the local rats, plus the occasional large car rolling by on US 151.

    Big Don Thanks this.

I agree 100% on the echo! I run echo boards in my cobra's and unidens but I have mine set so that if I say a single word only a 1/4 of that word starts to repeat. Kind of hard to explain, but it's like the old time radio hosts that used it just to make their voice sound "bigger".

Only thing I've been called on the cb out here is "Hey Watkins"! lol Have a ham call but don't think that'd go over too well on the cb.:biggrin_25523:

Too bad they (we) don't have a setting for decency (only).

Exactly....audio enhancement is all good, distortion and whatever else they try to do is bogus!! "I didn't want to hear what you had to say in the first place, let alone 15 times over!"

It seems to me most who actually use a handle are old school cats. Around where I'm at there's a few base station operators that actually have a handle but they're also older folks that enjoy a chat on the radio.

I have been using my handle since the mid 70's, and now more people know me by my handle than my real name!

I'll walk into the local auto parts store, and first thing I hear is "Jesse James"...Or I'll be at the local Walmart shopping with the wife, and it never fails someone will come up and wave a hand and call my handle...Then the wife will ask "Who's that", and I'll just tell her "It's just one of my Fans"...(most of the time I can't remember "Whos-Who")

Still use my handle on the radio, but not so much on 19...Mostly on local channels and DX...

hmmm my handle was driver, or more often ffe. seriously why would there be a database, you know even back when handles were used you could occasionally run into somebody who had the same handle.
