SixBrix said: ↑I'm glad to see that it's only a one year lease, but 15 months experience still isn't enough to get on with a GOOD company that pays on a percentage basis. Anyhow, it appears that you've already made up your mind, so best of luck to you.
I will appeal to your good sense one more time: please think this through before you jump in and commit.
As to my opinion of a good company that pays percentage, everyone already knows my opinion from my other threads, lol.
Yep, word of mouth is the best indicator. That's how I made my decision. I asked other owner/op's for years and kept a mental note of companies who consistently had the best rapport with their drivers. I would also pay close attention to who was sitting in dead areas and who was moving. I almost chose Mercer, but in dead freight areas, I noticed that there were far more Mercer drivers sitting waiting for loads than there were Landstar drivers. Also, I liked the fact that with Landstar, you could choose from a private load board or call agents, but with Mercer, you are assigned a coordinator, and you had to wait in a queue of other drivers to get a load. I discovered this in Lodi, CA. I was sitting in Lodi and I counted 11 empty Mercer flats and steps, and zero Landstar empty flats and steps. I asked a Mercer O/O about it, and he said that there were actually 22 empty guys waiting for loads in the Lodi area. He said that's nothing...in Fontana there were 48 empty O/O's waiting. He said that it's first come, first serve. He was number 2 out of 22, and so number 3 couldn't get loaded until number 2 was loaded (unless number 2 refused a cheap load, then number 3 could accept it). He had been there for 5 days waiting in line. Well, this finalized my decision...no Mercer for me.Click to expand...
thanks for that, SB
(hey , those are my initials)
that's kinda why I chose Refrigerated- there's always a food load somewhere, and backup is dry goods- -

Its still a lease of your equipment to them and you operate it. But the big difference is that they do not finance your rig. You have to have all that good stuff in line yourself.Click to expand...
Thanks again guys, SB and BM- it may have been a heated discussion , but I can now see your point about Thru vs TO
I'll be at my terminal tonight, and will talk to my FM- I had previously deduced that "getting miles" is the major risk in the plan...
And i'll have to further investigate why the company would want to cut miles on the truck, to have the potential to having it sit idle... idon't yet see the benefit to them for that action, but will look into it
K, back to the US open coverage
ps Happy Father's day -

The lone term goal of their plans are to fleece all they can from you and then repo the truck and fleece it to another gullible guy. This is why they will starve you to death towards the end of the fleece. To get you out of it, and into the hands of another person. -

To be honest, I'm not so sure what the incentive would be if there is no purchase option at the end of the lease...I could be off base there. But you will almost certainly have more money in the bank at the end of the year working as a company driver rather than working for $1/mi +FSC as a lease operator.
Anyhow, enjoy the US Open, and to all dad's on the forum here...happy Father's Day! -
Hey Six I thought you were way late leaving already????

Catch you all next week. -
SixBrix said: ↑I am. I'm just not excited about getting back on the road today. I'm feeling lazy and enjoying being home. When I leave, I have to go over Eisenhower Pass, Vail Pass, and southern Utah with 46,000 lbs on. Not my idea of a picnic, lol.

I hear ya, that isn't what I call sunday fun. Been there done that. Drive safe. -
SixBrix said: ↑CR England is infamous for doing this. The incentive is that when you can't make your payments, they boot you from the truck and sign it on with a new driver and do the same thing to him at the end of his lease. It is especially prevalent with lease/purchases...just when you are about to make your last lease payment and are ready for the "purchase" part to kick in and have the truck in your name, they cut your miles, take your truck back, and put some other poor sap in the same truck.

Because the cream always rises to the top I've never heard of a company fleece that does work.
If you are dead set on doing this with your company make them give you names and phone numbers of guys that have SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED their lease deal. And then call them to find out how they did and if they would do it again given the chance.
