Tell me about it. Over half my pay goes to deductions now... like $5K on a $7K gross, leaving me $2K.
-
Can you say "squeeze me" Mr. Broker ?
nonstop Thanks this. -
Sorry to hear that. Are these repeat loads or just what you have been able to get? I have a couple 2-3x a month loads that have gone to once a month but the rate has kept up with fuel. They are just keeping less in inventory. Overall my rates are up.

Load boards in the west and pacific west ,,, east seams to be stable

Sounds like you are seeing what a lot of people with good paying freight and FSC have been seeing. Companies pulling back on stock because they are feeling the pinch of fuel. I have not heard any credible (and I dont count a broker as credible) sources saying that shippers are cutting rates.
-
Rates out west have not been keeping up with fuel. I prefer to run out there but demand is weak so the rates reflect it. The bottom line is rates are a reflection of supply and demand. If trucks will haul a load for $1.40 a mile then that is the rate. Sort of like the potato brokers that want to still pay $4 a cwt today when fuel is $1 more a gallon than it was in December. I won't do it but apparently others are so I just stay away until things turn back in my favor.

Yeah, fuel keeps going up and, with my fuel surcharge, my actual cost out of pocket for fuel keeps going down. Right now, fuel is costing me a whopping 3 cents a mile. Oh, the horror of it all!
-
How can fuel only be costing you $.03 a mile. At 6mpg and fuel at $4 a gallon it would be $.67 a mile for fuel which would mean your getting $.64 a mile fuel surcharge. Not to say its not true but i finded it hard to believe.
-
I don't find it hard to believe, the last time fuel went up and was way over $4 a gallon the fuel surcharge I was getting paid for all my fuel each week and sometimes I had money left over. But that was with oversize loads not general freight.
