:biggrin_2559:Im talking about the same ice roads from season one of the tv show they don't have to do sheet but try to stay alive when they break down:biggrin_2559:

Yes its LIFE threatening , hard to stay alive in a MOCK breakdown ( any season of IRT ) along with the support vehicles and film crew that tag along with the TV stars.

In real life you are by YOURSELF in areas with no Cell or SAT service and not always running in a so called CONVOY. Having the ability to FIX a few things could be a life saving ability.

johnday and end of the road Thank this.

you get stranded in blizzard--with a broken truck---sorry nobody is coming for you--and it will get pretty cold--pretty quick if yu dont know what you are doing
that is why they try to run a few trucks together--not so they can be good buddys
when you get just even over the 49th--things change alot wether it is ice road or just highway

Again, I am aware that the're are planty of riscs and danger out there. I know ice trucking and even driving generaly takes courage. It is not an easy job. But from breaking down and haveing a hard time--- to actualy dyeing.... I think it is a little bit to dramatic. There are cell phones, radio, and people know usualy where you are. We are constantly on the phone with other drivers( friends ).
And from what I've read about ice trucking... There are more that just one truck going on that route. ( plus we are thinking of doing this with another couple of friends.... So... We will not be alone)

There are cell phones, radio, These do not WORK in all AREAS of the ARCTIC or in all weather conditions, in some storms you can be 10 feet from 3 other trucks and not even be able to see or hear them.

You can breakdown and freeze to death in North Dakota they same as outside of Yellowknife NWT or Nome Alaska.

We had a friend that got stuck this winter, and yes, it wasn't a pretty picture, but rescue crews came and everything turned out to be fine. I am sure that on critical situations you won't be just left there, and if there's more than one truck, you will team up to be safe(r).

You cant "honestly" wait to drive on icy roads..?:biggrin_2556: Honestly,I do not know what to think,-either you are very enthusiastic, very, very naive,or you ARE totally out of your mind.,or all of the above? Realistically,I would not worry about driving the ice roads for at least a year or two, concentrate on the lower 48 first. Good luck to U.:biggrin_25525:

To bad you do not look at the WORSE CASE senario and prepare for that, worse case is no one knows anything happened to you and the weather conditions are such that there is no way to get to you if they did know.

Thanks Bumpyi49. I am enthusiastic. I guess you didn't read the entire thread. This is not something I'm hoping or planing to do tomorrow. That's why I can use all advice. So I can analyse the facts. If this turnes out to be impossible, life threatening, than ... I am not suicidele. And that is the EXACT reason why I even started this thread. To ask experienced drivers, who had been in critical situations, who can bring out points that I've never thought before, so I can know more before making a decision. In one month of being on the road, c'm on! I am not even born in this industry yet.
So please, tell me as much as you know about hard core situations.
Have you ever did ice road trucking?
From what I've read on other sites, when you get this kind of job, there are a series of trainings, precaution matters, and special equipment that withouth they will not let you start on the road.
