Hello everyone. I am looking at getting my CDL soon and going through our local Tech School for training. I have been laid off for a year and have decided this is probably the best long term career choice for me. I am in my early 40's, I worked 17 years for our county and was laid off last year. I drove an F600 that carried a 1000 gal. tank for the first 8 years, then they decided to scale down the vehicle to a F350 with a 500 gal. tank. I averaged 100 miles/day and have a clean driving record after 17 years. I enjoy driving and seeing different places.
Jobs are scarce right now, but I have seen many signs Hiring CDL's. We have a lot of construction and refineries in my area. Possibly could tank or dump.
My oldest son is gone and the other is a teen. I am thinking of looking for a local job to get experience and then maybe hitting the open road when he heads off to college. So far, I have found many posts informative.
Glad to be here.

Unless you know someone that can get you in a local position, you might have to go over the road for a while to get the experience needed to find a local position.
