Im new to this site and plan on getting my cdl in the very near future. Ive been doing alot of research on companies and it seems to me that Crete and Con-way seem to be good companies. I was just wondering if someone could shed any light on this. If there good companies or bad companies and why they are good or bad. Thanks for your time.

have you looked into other technical schools that would cost the same as a cdl school. your money would be put to a better future for yourself, other than the trucking industry.:biggrin_2558:

Actually it was very good advice. All options should be explored.

The most important thing is to choose a company with a good safety rating, do the best you can do for 6 mos. to a year to get valuable experience. If the company stinks then look for another company after 6 mos or a year, you will then have a lot of clout going to good companies that require experience if you didnt have any incidents the first 6 mos. or a year.

I cannot recommend a entry level company, they all seem similar. But do research and try and stay away from the companies with poor safety ratings, their poor safety rating and potential dangerous equipment could end up costing you, whether it be tickets, OOS orders, etc.....

Theres a few good threads around here that you can read and gather some basic info. Just read and take all info with a grain of salt.

I have heard ok things about Crete. I imagine your eventual success will rest with you and your attitude towards your new chosen profession.

I did extensive research and I chose Con-way Truckload. Crete also has a good rep but they don't hire students from my area. Con-way Truckload can also help with getting your CDL thru a program at a nearby Crowder College. Roehl has training available also and they offer more hometime options than any other starter company.

Cudascious has it right for looking at a companys csa safety score. The trucking industry is entering a differant and new phase, and the company with a great safety record is going to survive out here moving forward.Crete has a great record, look for there website to see if there is a terminal near you. I never looked up con-ways record and don't know if it's good or not.

i just wanna say thank you for all the incite whether positive or negative. i have my mind made up already on what I'm gonna do with my career and that is definitely trucking. i just don't know how to approach it and what are my best options.that's why i figured i would ask people who were in my shoes once. i live in Ohio and just had a meeting with someone at a trucking school (great lakes trucking), i want to go to the schooling but its just not feasible for me. ill be out of work for 11 weeks 6 waiting to find out if i get a grant and 5 for the training. so i would rather choose to have a company pay for my training and so what if i have to work for them a year. that's why i asked is cause I've seen a lot of crappy reviews about some companies and i don't wanna get stuck with one of those guys that's for sure. really quick i don't care about home time neither the more I'm on the road the more money i get and at this point that's all i care about. again thank you all for the comments and i hope by tomorrow there's more pages of comments
