Hello guys and fellow cb'ers. I just bought and installed this radio http://customcbradios.com/Galaxy-DX959-CB-Radio-with-all-the-Toys-P643678.aspx in my pickup with a 102" stainless steel whip. I first installed the whip with a 4" spring under it and found my SWR to be 1.4 1.5 1.8 on channels 1 20 and 40 in that order. I took the spring off and added a 6" extension under the whip and got the SWR down to 1.2 1.3 and 1.4. Any suggestions? I have the antenna mounted dead center of the pickup on an aluminum tool box that sits up on the bed rails of the truck.
Thanks,
Harry

That sounds like pretty good swr to me. Maybe you could try grounding it better some how. But I thats good to go.

Thanks, usmc041127. So you think everything will be ok without the spring in the equation? Or maybe I could find a longer spring and eliminate the hard mound?
I would also like for someone to tell me something about this radio. I really don't know much about what I have.
Thanks,

I think you will be fine. I am sure Doug has that 959 dialed in perfect. The only thing I have heard really negative about the 959 is that they drift in the ssb freqs. I was very close to buying one and having a 2290 final installed. Doug has only done one like that and theres a video of it and what it sounds like. I think hes the only cb tech that has even done the final conversion that I know of. The person he built it for is Bullydog on Dougs forum and has a bunch of videos and reviews of it as well. He has one he did from his truck and his wife talking on it I belive so you know just what they sound like on the other end. The only reason I didn't buy one it because it didn't have the backlit display and cost wise of putting in the 2290 final. My 93T galaxy is close to what it would have been I would imagine.

If you are under 2:1 swr match, that is perfectly acceptable. You numbers are fine.

dont worry about that SWR. if you decide to run a "footwarmer", i would check it again.

There is nothing with your SWR. Anything below 1.5 is perfect.

Perfect is perfect. Nothing less than perfect is perfect.
