Bigron33rd what r your thoughts on conway im worried if I take the job their i wont see my family what kind of home time were u seeing
-
If you're asking about Con-way Freight we're home everyday - we all are. I've worked here for 8 years and have spent exactly two nights away from my own bed - one after getting stuck behind a massive accident for 8+ hours and the other I was asked to bypass a meet point and run all the way down so I did for a change of scenery by choice and enjoyed it..
The home daily no matter what is why I stuck around through the slow times and I'm now glad I did.. -
I agree with jake with conway even tho I didn't stick it out when it became slow I wish I did somewhat but things happen for a reason and truthfully I like fedex better because if ur doing p&d work u will work but not as hard tho . I mean the terminal that I came from was just back breaking work for a new guy but I heard that other terminals are not the same.
When it comes to conway line haul like jake said u will be home every night and the same goes with fedex !!! I like fedex. You will slow times but if u really just build ur money up during the busy season so when it gets slow u won't struggle thru it as much , also stick in there and u will be a senior driver with all the benefits !!!! Good luck -
Hey me and jake are talking about conway linehaul and p&d side of things not conway truckload !!!

I am a new P&D driver and one of the rare hourly line haul drivers at Old Dominion in Buffalo, NY. I honestly can't see me doing anything else, I love it. The pay is great and you cant beat the M-F with weekends and holidays off. The company is great and my co-workers at the terminal are very helpful. Pretty much what jakebrake12 has stated is very similar to Old Dominion Freight Line.

I was thinking Conway, there's a terminal not to from my house in ATL. It's good to here something positive about them, not the usual bickering that's on here. I've picked up a couple of times running there long haul stuff with my past company and it always seemed like a mad house in there at 0600. Is that just the nature of the beast with them? If so, no worries I can adapt.

I would stay away from FedEx.
FedEx Freight lost over $500 million the past 2 years and $110 million just this past quarter.
They do pay good but they seem to be constantly opening/closing barns down and re-configuring their network...never can get it right for some reason.
I used to work there...I know plenty of guys on the bottom of city/road boards sitting at home right now making $0.
Some barns have redshirts (supervisors) driving around on towmotors while guys aren't working.
Plus there's lots of talk of putting freight on the rails and running things like FedEx Ground...which is 100% O/O and makes FedEx a TON of $$$$$.
So I'd be really careful there.DOTrevenuepatrol Thanks this. -
Sounds like a typical LTL dock. Mad house situation is more normal than not, particularly at certain times. It can go from mad house to dead still and then back again. There really is very little of what most people would consider to be "normal" conditions on an LTL dock.
