Geez, I did the mountains in all sorts of trucks. The Roehl truck that I drove wasnt half bad.It did a decent job in the mts.Only real problem truck I ever drove was a Swift truck.I took I-68 across MD. and WV. and it was a real bummer.I had about 45,000 lbs. on and the old Volvo would just barely get to the top of the hills.I realize there are some pretty good pulls in that area, but just wait till you get to the western part of the USA and the good old Rocky Mts.Then you will think that those WV mts. are just little hills. Some very good mts. in northern CA and OR.
Going with Roehl

LKat sounds like you went to Georgia Driving Academy, that's where the wife and I recently graduated from.
-
I went to school in GA, yes, but not GA Driving Academy; I went to a (public) tech school. Thank gawd for the Hope grant; I hope I'm going from behind a desk to behind the wheel.

After doing some reading here and talking with a Roehl rep this morning, they are at top of my list now. At this point, down to Schneider and Roehl. Would rather go to independent school than company school, but, affordability and school location is a problem. Nearest driving school is Roadmaster across the MS river in West Memphis, AR (read less than desireable posts on them here) or about 75 miles east of home. So, may be better for me to go to company school and be indentured for a year or two. From all I have read, better to be indentured to Roehl than Big Orange.....but, still have an open mind. Any pro or con advice is welcome anytime to this soon to be newbie on the road.

My recruiter, ****** ********, called me this afternoon and informed me that I have officially been sloted for the July 23rd class. He is going to send me some paerwork to get my Montgomery GI Bill started as well as some other important information. He has also set me up to get my DOT physical tomorrow morning here in Rapid City. Everything looks great at this point in time, all I have to do is pass my physical and I will be in! I will keep you all posted!

Good luck to all of you just getting started.I dont think you can go wrong with Roehl. And just remember your work ethics and attitude have an awful lot to do with how you make out.

Hey wispers, do u know where you will be staying? I stayed at the dutch inn up there and it was quite cozy, and all the shopping needs are right near by, just wondering, also, don't worry 'bout grinding those gears and getting the downshifting it will seem impossible at first but I'm sure ur hubby has told you all about that right? u will have a blast!!! and Hev E D, you will love it I know u will!!!! Roehl is great! they have treated me well, as last week I got a sore throat which turned out to be strep throat, then had some massive ummm, female issues and have had to have several tests done, I am currently on dispatch hold and stuck here at home.

Bluegrass - I hope you are feeling better and can get on the road soon !
and Good Luck to Whispers and Hev ED on school! I think I would like to have gone to the Roehl school but didn't know about Roehl when I decided I wanted to get my CDL - I got a grant for a community college/tech school here which I think is a good school. The transition would prolly be easier if I had started with Roehl's school. I am slated for Ellenwood on Aug 1st (have some things to get in order before starting). Is anyone going through orientation in Ellenwood then? I think everybody else that has mentioned it is going sooner than me Whispers & Hev ED - please share your training experiences when you have time
