Being a so-called nosey parent isn't a bad thing, you are showing your love and caring that all parents should do. Your daughter is lucky to have you. That other idiot needs at least ten years to smarten up.

DOESNT ANYONE SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS?

Did the due process clause of the constitution suddenly disappear? This man was tricked into believing he could have sex with a 14 year old girl. Did he have sex with a girl? NO. he had a fantasy and the cops enticed his fantasy and acted on it going to the fairgrounds.

SO, if someone talks to you about robbing a bank and after 7 months of always hearing you'll never get caught and you say yes, does this mean you have to go to jail?

This type of action is entrapment and will only start to go into other areas.

ARE YOU SAYING I'M CRAZY and the government will never create the "thought police"?

WRONG! They are doing it right now to catch people who they call terrorists. They are enticing these people the very same way.

Still not convinced this is the thought police and in violation of the due process clause?

in florida if you have a car with a license plate that you have to pay 100 dollars for and that car becomes totalled you have to turn that license plate in. obvious you wouldnt keep the insurance on the car. but guess what! if you dont turn in the plate (remember you paid 100 for and will have to pay again to get another plate) your license gets suspended for having a plate and no insurance because the state thinks you will drive without insurance. no matter how much you tell them the car is not drivable you have to give up your plate or get your license suspended.

If this was or could have been YOUR daughter, niece or any other close relative, would you be standing up and saying "He didn't actually have sex, he was just thinking about it?" Me personally, if you think about it and you react to the extent that you show up in the area of the child (yes,it could be a real 14 year old), you deserve the full extent of the law. Police Sting or not!

that is exactly how they justify it.

you bring up another point. the government has also determined we the people are terrible parents and want to raise our kids.

the police enticed him and told him to come. 7 months! it took 7 months for him to try it.

my daughter will be raised by me and only me. if i see her talking online to a guy asking to meet and she says ok, that is on me and for me to handle. not the police.

if she is talking to a guy for 7 months and meets him that means i am a terrible parent.

your reaction is exactly what makes the government think we cant handle our own lives and need big brother to take care of us.

i dont need the cops or anyone to handle my life, dot does that enough already.

I keep a VERY close eye on my daughter, but it's comforting to know that someone else is out there trying to "help" the ones who don't have someone looking over their shoulder. Not all kids have parents to keep an eye on them, and with todays society (yes I blame todays society), to many parents have to work full time jobs and aren't around to raise their kids. If people would back off from the "keeping up with the Jones" attitude, I feel there would be alot less of this stuff happening. If the government would step in and HELP parents who have to work 2 jobs, instead of helping the ones who don't want to work, the whole world would be a safer place for our kids, the ones who have parents who care.

I DO! There have been several cases in our county where young men got arrested on such charges. "Minority Report" always came to mind.

Not being around all the time doesn't mean people can't protect their children from inappropriate material on the Internet. If they are not computer savvy, they can contact their sheriff's office for information and assistance. If local law enforcement for whatever reason can't help, there is always the possibility of not letting kids use the computer unsupervised.

I agree with you, my husbands on the road alot, but he takes the time to know what the kids are doing, he's very interested in them. He takes the time to talk to them, some parents don't and that's when problems will occur. We'd rather our daughter be mad at us and feel like we're being nosey, than have something happen to her and then who would be to blame.....US for not taking the time.
