Power Inverters

Should be fine for a small microwave. I have a 1500 watt and I could use my small microwave which was about 700 watts or my coffee pot which is about the same wattage. All appliances have their power requirements on them so you know. I never tried to run both at the same time though, should be fine but why risk it. I also have my TV and laptop plugged into it. Also make sure the truck is running.

If you want GOOD cables that will not get hot you need heaver wire.
You want at least a 3 gauge cable and copper is the best. Aluminmun will over heat.

My cables came from NAPA Auto Parts. They are a 20' long set of 3g jumber cables.

I also got the battery post clamps there. Then I got my circuit breaker there also when my old one finally quit. This one I can reset and I also got the clamps for it as the posts are 1/4 inch. The store can swedge the clanps on in their machine which makes for a better connection to the cable.

Get a pack of 12" long tie wraps for attaching the cables to the trucks wiring bundle from the battery box to whereever it is you decide to run the cable into the inverter.

My inverter has the plugs in the back where the cable fits inside it and you screw a screw down on it.

With a good cable you will never get it hot! Those that come with the inverter are a joke and maybe you can get 3 cents for it at a recycle place!

 

I have a Cobra CPI 2575 (I believe it is the correct number) I had it installed by Maverick and it worked fine for almost a year. It started to beep when it was under a load and finally got to the point that it would kick off whenever I put it under any load.
I returned it under warranty and they sent me another one. As soon as I turned it on it would beep and shut off. I checked all of the connections and I was getting voltage to it. The only thing I noticed was that on the original one, there was not a ground wire going from the case of the unit to the truck. I hooked one up and it still did the same thing.
I sent it back and they returned it to me saying that it worked fine. I put it in again and it is doing the same thing.
The way Maverick has it hooked up is the red lead goes to some sort of solenoid first before it goes to the inverter while the black comes right off of the battery.
Can anyone shed any light why this inverter is shutting off as soon as I turn it on?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I checked the cables again and I have the proper voltage going to the unit.

 

Thanks, Yea i was looking at about an 800 watt microwave.
The inverter actually has a digital read out that shows the watts being used.
The inverter will be for the microwave only so should be good to go.
It will be nice to have hot meals and save money.

 

What do you power off of it? Are you running this stuff all the time, or just plugging it in when you need it?

 

And does it shut off as soon as you switch it on with nothing plugged into it?

It shuts down when I power up the inverter with nothing else plugged into it.

 

I found the problem. The solenoid that Maverick installed went bad and was not allowing the proper power. It was installed to allow the truck to sense if the batteries were going down and it would sound the alarm and then shut it off.
Now...just have to get one this week and I will be good to go!

 

I was thinkin' that myself - was going to suggest you jump the solenoid, and see what happens.

 

It was the only thing it could be. I was just not sure if it was something that they added or if it was already there!
