I've been thinking of trying one of those greens drink mixes, with all the vitamins and nutrients that you could get from eating your fruits and veggies all day long but are virtually impossible for a trucker to get. From what I understand, food cravings usually happen when either a) we haven't eaten, or b) we've eaten the wrong kinds of foods and still haven't gotten the nutrients our bodies actually need. I try to eat healthily on the road (milk & cereal, yogurt, carrots and celery, nuts, etc.), but I still end up eating way more sugar and white carbs than I want to. Even fruit smoothies, which I thought were way healthy, seem to be loaded with sugar and leave me with a headache. The makers of these greens drink mixes claim that by supplying the nutrients we need they reduce cravings, balance blood sugar levels, detoxify the system, and all kinds of other good effects. Has anyone ever used them? Any thoughts?

Try some v-8 or v-8 fusion, each 8 oz glass will give you the same as a full serving of veggies. I don't like regular V-8 but the spicy and the fusion is pretty good.

I'll admit that V8 is probably better than not getting your veggies at all. However, I prefer my veggies raw, instead of highly processed.

ltldslwmn - If you do some searching on "Slow Carb Diet", you'll see a way to eat that can be done on the road with a little preparation, and keeps you from getting the mid-day tiredness. I know, as I switched to it, and it has worked wonders for me in soooo many ways. I've also posted about it in other threads within the Drivers' Health Corner. If you have any questions about it, or how to implement it on the road, just ask. I've done it with a hotbox, and a cooler, and it worked fine, as long as you were willing to do some prep each day.

As far as the green drinks, they are a great supplement, but I would never use them as a replacement.

I'm a vegetarian and recently I kind of converted my husband into one ( not exactley by choice). We have a fridge, and we shop once a week # Sams club( that is the only convenient store in our way).  All the fruits we get, we keep them under the Bed. Mainly apples and bananas. We buy vegetables ( what ever we are in the mood for) and we eather eat them just like that dipped in hummus, sowercream, or incorporated in a  sandwich. ( letuce, cabbage, celery but even brocoli or caulieflower work if you have the patience).
I worked with a nutritionist for 4.1/2 years (@my last job). All the juices have preservatives if not even more. A natual juice, looses it's nutritional propreties in minutes ( even refrigerated), and on normal, natural conditions it would spoil in maximum 2 days. I'm sure they're better than soda and other drinks, they just are no "natural".
As for the craveings... Probiotics ( orthobiorics). We use them and they are miricle workers. Also one of the first thing people notice is that the craveings dissapear. Here's a link with deffinition.       http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probiotic
