CDL permit questions

    I've been holding in line on my DMV office for over 30 minutes now and still holding in line so I ask here.
    I wanna take the CDL permit test but what are the perquisites I need in order to take it, such as DOT physical, etc.?
    If I failed, how soon after I failed that I can retake the test again? If I failed the test at the first time, will it affect the outcome of me getting a good job, for example, the employer look to see how many times I need to pass the test.
    I know every state is different but in general?

    Well...here in California...

    You need your real (not a copy) social security card, and your medical card completed & signed by a physician. Your application for a new license class is open until for 1 year, or until your expiration date, whicever is sooner. You may retake the tests over 3 times each, back to back if you'd like, or come in another day after you've studied.

    Here's the breakdown of my permit testing, and I did not go to school.

    Show up at DMV without SS Card. Went home.
    Came back a week later with SS card and got my physical that week too as to not be shut down again. Took General Knowledge, Combinations, Air Brakes, Doubles/Triples, and Tanker tests. Passed everything but General Knowledge and Air Brakes. Looked them over, and retook both. Passed General Knowledge, failed Air Brakes again!

    I now had a choice, retake airbrakes for the final time and pass, come back another day and pass, or fail, and have to retake EVERYTHING again, along with paying the ~$70. Well, I took it there and passed.

    Just a breakdown of how they do it here in CA, may be different where you are at, not entirely sure.

    Again we dont know what state you are in !

    In Pa. you go to the Drivers License Centre,
    Take your current Class C License and Soial Security card and fill out the form for what all you want to take at that time.
    Pay With a check made out to the DOT .

    Take your test and get your Permit !
