I wonder then,do you suppose the Mexican drug cartel has lobbyists in Washington to keep our current, ridiculous drug policies in place?I too, will only touch on the "health" aspects of the "smoke." I have been at the funeral of 3 childhood friends who have drank themselves to death.,the last one buried 4 years ago......Looking back on MY life, the only REAL trouble I was ever involved in,from the ages of 15 to 35,always involved alcohol,-ALWAYS...In the movie The Untouchables,a reporter asked Kevin Costner"s character what he would do if they again made alcohol legal, and he replied,"I believe I will have me a drink." Although just a movie...I believe that is what I would do if pot were to become legal..-Take a toke...For a little hope...
Albeit false hope,Still....Look Ma...No hangover....

I'm not going to argue with this, first because I really don't know much on the subject. I guess I was never interested enough to do any research. #I will tell you this though: i'm not saying that doctor prescriptions are good, but I do know that keeping a healthy lifestyle will spare you from even something as little as a painkiller. So instead of dreaming about marijuana being legalized, wouldn't be easier to figure out a way to be healthier? In my opinion it is far more realistic. ( I know the thread is about marijuana). And I still believe it's a taboo subject. It's ilegal, nobody would admit that it's using it constantly, (if they do), and most people would not bring it up anytime, anyplace due to maybe a certain % of imbarecement ( we don't always know how people arround us would react ). So that makes it a TABOO --- http://www.google.com/search?q=define:taboo&nomo=1#

Your circles are not my circles. The people I talk to openly admit if they smoke. It's not taboo. When done in small amounts, it's not unhealthy, same as a drink a night isn't unhealthy. I've openly admitted to those I know that I used to smoke, and would again if it weren't for drug testing because of running into the US.canuck in da truck Thanks this. -

That's kind of retarded considering California has pretty much the most lax laws in the country regarding cannabis and cultivating cannabis.
A Craigslist add in northern California even had plants pictured in the add selling hydroponic equipment. -
I've been listening to the smoking "dope"arguments for years--and my opinion on all of this is going to stay private--but we tried prohibition in this country once and it was a disaster--for many reasons--but the 2 biggest were--the rise in crime and very organized deadly criminals and TAX REVENUE"S LOST---Think about it!

This is how I was raised, that is the "gateway" drug. While that may be...I really don't see why booze and cigarettes can be sold anywhere (with valid license) and marijuana is so illegal. Treat it like tobacco. Tax the crap out of it! They could even impose the law that you have to be 21 to purchase like alcohol. Same work related policies regarding alcohol can stand, and same driving laws can stand.
Both weed and booze are mind altering, causing poor/delayed judgement, etc. -
Off the beaten path. Let's just say pot makes that guy's knee feel better (two pages back). It helps this other guy with Glaucoma. Over here it makes this Aids patient feel better.
Do you think the pharmacuetical companies would want the public having a drug they can grow in their backyard for free? Their sales would drop dramatically.
They have the clout to get their way and keep it illegal. I think that plays a big part in why things are the way they are.Strider Thanks this. -
Agreed. Big Pharma is one of the reasons it continues to be an "illegal" drug, for the most part. However, as the Governator said many moons ago, "It's not a drug, it's a leaf".
Strider Thanks this. -
Exactly right; the pharmaceutical companies and there trillion dollar industry...let's just say their money and power runs deep.
