Honestly, if the gliders do not work out, I'd go with Volvo VNL64T630's with Cummins ISX engines and 13spd Transmissions. The D13 Volvo engines are known for their poor reliability as the case with the bigger sister, the D16. Something like this would very comfortable for what you are wanting to do.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. How long before CA cracks down so much that Gliders wont be able to run there? I really like that idea and if we can get by 5 years then that may be the way to go. I like the Volvo that KingHunter posted and that may be another alternative. I like the Cascadias also so those may be the 2 this all boils down to. Haven't looked at the Pete Gliders yet though and if I had my druthers we would definitely go with a Glider.
The Challenger Thanks this. -

I would call Fitzgerald Freightliner... they build brand new glider kits (trucks come w/o engine and trans) and they put brand new pre-emissions motors/trans into them, give a warranty and are prob the BEST on the market. For around $115k out the door, this would be your best bet. Check them out, they have a very good reputation!!!!

There are probably a few hard working owner-operators that live around there who would love to find a regular run with steady pay.

have you checked a full service lease with somebody like penske?
that way you dont have to worry about the maintenace part of things--and if your truck is down you should be able to get another one right away--and then you dont have trucks that are depreciating in value --maybe possible tax advantages as well
i am not sure if that way is feasible or not--but it does have its good points as well as bad pointsSHC Thanks this. -
I would have to agree with canuck, with the way California is going, it may be cheaper to lease trucks from Penske. Not only for the tax savings and no maintenance costs, but also if CA decided to change its emissions laws again, or another state, you are not stuck with trucks you can't run.
