"I've been out of a truck for at least 2 months"
Face the FACTS and sorry to say it , but you have never been in a truck long enough to warrant that comment.
"There are plenty of low-wage jobs around, but that won't work for my family and I long term." And looking around to find a place where you can slip through on the road test is benefitting them.
Like others have posted , give it up , just not meant to be.
Heres a job in your area of the state and involves having a CDL

Should I even bother trying again?

While usually not being one to discourage anyone--it seems as though you really may not be cut out for this type of work--I have worked with many new drivers over the years--and typically have a very can-do attitude and try to instill that in others--If your school can/will let you start ALL OVER FROM SCRATCH--without you wasting any more of your limited resources--I would have to say go for it---BUT--you must star from scratch with an open mind--and pay much more attention than you ever have before--along with that--YOU MUST put the past behind you--what is done is done--get it out of your head--or you are DOOMED to repeat history--So I would suggest--you sit yourself down and have an HONEST conversation with yourself--go over what has happened--your feelings--attitudes that contributed to this--make yourself believe--FOR THE RIGHT REASONS--this is something you really WANT to do--but be HONEST WITH YOURSELF! Then make a responsible decision!
just my$.02Marksteven, TheHealthyDriver, Lantern and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not to be rude! but i dont think trucking is right for you. With everything you have said, i wouldnt hire you. Maybe try a different field!
-
I respect your answer.
Try a different field? That's what I was doing here. I used to be a POS (register) technician before being laid off over a year ago. I have NO clue what to do now. -

bartending school............
don't laugh, ...a good bartender, in the right place, can make 70-80K+ !!!! -
Yeah, no money. I still don't know how the #$%^ I am going to pay for the CDL loan.
Interesting, one of the guys in CDL school was a bartender and left. He's at USX right now. -
Here's a question for ya.
If you had $100million in the bank, so money wasn't an issue, what would you do, day to day? Think about that for awhile. Once you have a good idea what that is, then THAT'S what you should be going after. Now, if, while you're going after it, you need to work 2 crappy jobs, to make ends meet, so be it. Think of the short term pain as a payment for your long term gain. Going after a job, just for the sake of the money you may make, always leads to a dead end life.
