Here in Canada we're running a National Fuel Strike. April 15,2011, we're asking Canadians NOT to buy Gasoline or Diesel Fuel for 24 hours.
What this will do, ,will be to tell the big fuel companies that we're not going to take the gouging of fuel anymore......it takes much longer to make gasoline than it does diesel fuel, but Diesel fuel has a higher price.
Listen to fuel company execs and they WILL come up with a shaggydog story, as to why the price is so much higher. It's all smoke and mirrors, and complete fabrication.
IF you want to keep on being used....ignore this, it's totally cool....HOWEVER...if you as an Owner Operator, company owner, or fleet manager doesn't like what you see....even company drivers....then DON'T buy fuel on April 15..
We're also asking drivers of commercial vehicles to NOT put the key in the ignition April 15, 16, and 17, here in Canada, and we have a delegation to go to Provincial Capitol in Toronto, and National Capitol in Ottawa Ontario, for the purpose of creating a new "Essential Service" in Canada. Being An Essential Service, like schools Hospitals and churches, gives you a major tax break.
Ever heard of a schoolboard going bankrupt? If you have, it wasn't because they didn't pay taxes....they have practically NONE.
If we can fight for that status, we can make trucking FUN again, and have more money in our pockets!
Any American Brothers or sisters think this way?
    Without trucks the world DIES!

Good story! I have for years laughed at people who say diesel is a by product of gasoline.

It's not! It's a by product of crude oil!

For those who think they understand refining here is a link to ehow http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/energy/oil-refining2.htm on refining or google how crude is refined for a long description but it's all a rising temperature thing, then the further processing of what part of the process they are working on.

Diesel is considered a heavy gas. we all know from filling our lawn mowers and washing parts in gas and then spilling diesel, that gas has been processed much more than diesel!

Even this new ultra low sulfa fuel does not get the refining that gas does and truckers and users of diesel are getting gouged at the pump and the gooberments of every country knows this, allows this and then adds their stupid high taxes to it! They know that there are more users of diesel than there used to and for some stupid reason the morons at the refineries are under the same idiotic assumption that everyone else out there thinks that truckers and trucking companies are RICH so they deserve to get gouged!

These idiots who own and run these oil companies tried to jump on the BP fuel spill and jack their prices up as if it effected them! What thieves, and I will call you that to your faces if you want me to!

BP still showed a profit after the spill! GO Figure, but they all wanted to gouge every one of us because one company spilled a few million gallons of not their fuel but BP's! Yep time to fine them all and force a reduction in costs when they show billions of dollars profit but show no growth or spending for improvements or cost in safety equipment the reason BP had that little problem of theirs and not paying a pathetic $500,000 for a better blow out preventer.

Have fun all of you north of the border but you need to be sure that you advertise this heavily and not with a few little web posts and on that useless POS called a CB that's never used anymore! Just do NOT everyone of you fuel the day before as that will just give them the money a day earlier than the day you "strike"

To really hurt them you need to do it a little differently by starting with the biggest producer in Canada and not buying from them for a week then on down the line untill they all have been "boycotted"
It''l be hard on those guys or company drivers that must fill up at certain stops and they will pretty much not be able to follow this. It's going to be left up to O/Os that can do without that fuel card and fall back on cash to hurt the oil companies. You'll not get much of an impact as you are hoping for unless you can get the companies to fall on this and well you know how that'll work!

Do the fuel companies in Canada set the prices?...I know in the states it's the speculators that cause the spikes...If it's the same, you won't send a message but you will be able to enjoy a day off!!!

    Oh my, where to begin?

First off, who is the "we?" If this is an example of whatever "they" are proposing, it is no wonder the trucking industry is in such a mess.

One thing is apparent, none of "we" has a clue as to what it means to be an "essential service." Here's a primer...
"...must continue to provide services..." Whoops. :biggrin_25526:

While hospitals fit that designation, I'm not sure who told you schools and churches are essential services, but they're smoking something funny. Now maybe they meant for every truck driver to become a government employee, but, ah... we'll leave it at that. Rail is considered an essential service due to the concessions given the railways that were part-and-parcel of the founding of this country (and in part due to the fact that CN was a federal Crown corporation for most of its history).

All of which has exactly nothing to do with taxes or bankruptcy.

Do you know why schools and hospitals don't go bankrupt? Because, for all intents and purposes, they are an extension of the provincial government. In both cases they receive virtually all their funding from the government. However, private schools and hospitals do go bankrupt, just like any other for-profit business can. Just like trucking.

Churches that are a designated charity receive a major tax break because they are providing a community service (although, let's not open that debate here :biggrin_25523:). I know trucking often feels like you're running a charity, but it isn't quite the same. :biggrin_2559:

O/Os should be taking home most of their income paying little to no tax at all until they are making significant amounts... it isn't hard to arrange.

    You want more income?
    Stop.
    Hauling.
    Cheap.
    Freight.

    and

    Stop.
    Working.
    For.
    Cheapskates, liars and crooks.
    It is that simple.

Oil markets and speculators operate globally - all countries that have to import oil are affected by this.

Canada has the worlds second largest oil reserve. However we export it all over the world. Our government is run by Idiots.

Price of diesel in Canada right now on average is $1.25 per litre that's almost $4.80 US Gallon. There is no need for this.
