...are in pursuit!! Many stories of police cars 'running into' big trucks!! The best bottom line I can give you is, to put you in a big truck (with auto trans) and let you drive 1 hour thru a big city and then you will have a better understanding of what we face daily!!

Putting 2 different animals (like cats & dogs) together breeds emnity!! Small, zippy, no-inertia cars sharing the lanes with big, long, heavy, lumbering, hi-inertia trucks will never make both friends!! I know, cause I drive both types of vehicles!!

My 'philosophy' on trucks in the middle lane is during high traffic areas/times if I am in the middle lane I AM SAFE AND YOU ARE SAFE from 'poorly merging traffic' I do not travel below the speed limit unless speed limit is 70mph I cannot go that fast, however I have been called everything under the sun for riding the middle lane even in chicago when posted speed limit is 45mph through construction. I do the speed limit and intend on not having any accidents, however 2 weeks ago I was in conneticut :biggrin_25521:during the afternoon I moved to the middle lane for merging traffic I was heavy and coming to a hill I signaled that I was moving back over-yes the spot was there for me, The idiot behind me decided to not let me in but I took my spot anyway to get out of the way, well this pissed off a pickup truck driver, he swung around in front of me and hit his brakes hard and he turned around to get a glimps of my reaction-:biggrin_2556:there was none since I was trying to climb this hill, had I been going down hill this stunt could have endangered mine and many other lives, :biggrin_25513:this is why I like the middle lane. and if you wish to call me names that does not hurt me, I will still be safe in the middle lane.:biggrin_25522:

Well if you cutt me off and slam on your breaks it will be the last thing you will do if I do not have time to stop.

I do not care if you are in law enforcment or not. This is not going to be a P****** match between us.
We are out there to do a job as safely as possible if that means that we need the middle lane so be it. Would you like to be out there writing up reports due to stupid 4wheelers merging under a truck trailer and killing themselves and it being 100+ degree outside or any kind of wreck?

This is another post of yours.

this wouldn't neccesarily be a bad thing if all trucks used this philosophy. however, what i see on a daily basis is the 'old' style truckers that travel at slower speeds in the right lanes along with the 'new' truckers who travel at slow speeds in the middle lanes. so now what you have are two lanes being used by slow moving vehicles

since changing my commute to work, i am now strictly highway driving. i have noticed a huge increase in the number of trucks that will drive in the middle lane(3 laners) or 3 third lane(4 laners) regardless of driving situation. these trucks will be driving at 10-15 mph slower than the posted speed limit and even slower than the overall speed of traffic.
why is this becoming the norm?
at first, i thought the explaination would be so the trucks wouldn't be bothered(slowed) by traffic merging onto the higway.

    can someone enlighten me?
    thanks

the reason i came to this board was to get an answer for this type of driving. i now know.
so it seems as if the majority of sensible drivers will be penalized by the truckers, because of a small majority of poor drivers.

i guess as long as you dont mind 'getting the business' from the drivers your screwing so your ride can be less of a hassle, so be it.

Dont know what answer you want?
I gave the the reasons experienced truckers drive the middle lanes---for efficient & safe delivery of freight. If you just got on this forum to gripe, it wont change the facts that I provided to you. You are inconvenienced a couple of minutes a day on your way to/from work, and we drivers are on the road 11 hrs/day. Since this has turned the corner of the 'point of diminishing returns,' and is just wasting MY time, I suggest that if you want to stand in front of your bathroom mirror---maybe the other person there with you might care....:biggrin_25518:

That doesn't mean you know how to drive either. I've had plenty of cops cut me off, make right hand turns out of the left lane etc.

last cop had a tude with me got his tude adjusted by me.

The cop from NY works and lives here got out of his cop car after pulling me over one day after the world trade center stuff happened he had just gotten back from ny helping them out and he got out with a major tude towards me I got in his face and told him listen when you come up to me in my vehicle you mf you treat me with some gd respect or I'll get out and kick your a next time so he went back and ran my info and came back and shaking and asked can you please sign this sir.
I went to court to fight the ticket and asked the city attorney what my tude towards the officer said he told me that the officer put that I had been nice to him I told the city attorney that is funny I chewed his butt out for giving me a bad tude from the start. That is when I learned he just got back from the world trade center not too long before I got pulled over. The city attorney appoligized to me for that officer and he went to that officers supervisor. I had to pay part of the ticket but most of it was dismissed.

Hey Squid; you know what it is like to have a bad day on the highway, I am sure, but you also know drivers of these big rigs are extremely safe in comparison with the rest of the rate race.

Now, I have had the police pull right in front of me and apologize because I was forced to ride my breaks to avoid running him over, but, I saw it coming and was prepared. He was lucky though. Those are the type of chances one takes when playing Pacman and not life or death on the highways.

I must say, overall I am very disappointed in the way the politics of the Police agencies have changed from, "To Serve and Protect" to "Law Enforcement!" These words don't set well in the public eye and is a big reason many have no respect for police today.

However, with a little common sense, the majority tolerate the inequalities of life these days.

I grew up with the Oregon Basic Speed Law of which you could travel as fast as you wanted as long as you (the driver) and the vehicle met the safety requirements to be traveling at such a high rate of speed. There were many areas that had no freeways yet and I have driven from Portland to Baker, Oregon in 3 hours and 20 minutes with one stop for gas. 303 miles. Not any more; even with the freeways and wide open spaces between traffic.

Likewise, I have put many miles down the autobahn in Europe at speeds greater than 100 miles per hour and never had a problem. Of course there are rules of the road and you must be paying attention constantly to do those speeds as there are always those going faster and they need to get buy. No hogging the road.

It is an interesting world we live in and we have so many restrictions today based on some people who have no common sense at all behind the wheel or any place else and then there are the communities that just need to fines to pay for their business and those fines have nothing to do with safety.

I remember the old days of running VASCAR when I lived in Kentucky many years ago. It was a game back then for most of the young troops; yeah, lets get another one.

Guess we all have to have fun in our own ways, right?

However, I firmly believe the death of common sense and government was when government got too big and powerful.
