Also put in a call and an email to USX since they also have a terminal near me (Joliet-30 miles)

Will update when I have a conversation with anyone.

I too put in an application with Conway Apprentice program. It took over 1wk for them to call me back. The details were that the apprentice would be a dock worker 20-30hrs a wk (part-time), at that time they would have to get the Class A permits, D\T, hazmat, air. They would then after 30 days get to ride along for various shifts, on various routes, and would have the following 60 days to get the actual Class A license.
It did sound as if the apprentice would have as much or as little time available before and after working hours to train and become proficient with the equipment being used.

Left a phone message and also applied via the website for Crete as their Illinois terminal is only 10 miles from me.

The more I investigate, the more companies I fond with terminals that are relatively close. Good news!

Close is good, and if you're near terminals that's a plus. The more I look into trucking as a beginner (just passed my CDL pre-trip & road test yesterday), the more clear it seems that you just need to bite the bullet and get the year or two of experience it takes (incident/accident free, of course) to land a more desirable, higher paying job in trucking. Kind of a 'duh' thing, as it happens almost the same way in just about every field; find an entry point, and work yourself up from there.

Best wishes with your schooling, keep us posted (as I know you will!).

    Cheers.

Another note to add. My training out to be pretty personalized as I am the only person enrolled in the course at this time:biggrin_2559:

I'll be surprised if they even hold the class, unless they get others enrolled! Good luck to you though. Hope it goes well.

There current class has only 2 in it and they are running it. I was told just today that it would happen, even if I am the only one.............

We will see in 2 weeks though. It would be nice to have at least one more, so I can learn from their mistakes and not be the only ######## screwing up:biggrin_25525:

Got a response back from Gordon Trucking. Not hiring recent grads in my area.

That's not a good sign, as unfilled classes get canceled.

What are you going to a community college for?
