any CAV unit is authorized the stetson and spurs....but you have to do either a combat tour or spur ride to get them (i did two spur rides, got both both times, also lost them twice....dont ask)

all SF is pretty even noawadays....delta USED to focus mainly on hijackings and rescues from terrorists

that said, i think the green berets are the baddest of the bad.....ive sparred with a couple and got my azzhat handed to me each time in a quik and painful manner

seals i just cant take to serious, after all they are in the canoe club....LOL

BIG D, thanks for what ya do, and i hope to meet you in kuwiat in a few months.....i'll be the short ####y guy wearing 8 and asking about your ammo stocks....LOL

side note, got a few buddies in 'stan, most say it sucks
one has been hit twice in his m984a4 wrecker by IED's.....guess they rock the hell outta them big trucks

The black beret became the head gear that replaced the bdu cap and the garrison cap for utility and dress prior to 9-11 for all members except S/F and airborne.

Can't talk about Nam since I wasn't quite old enough for that but yes, am talking about 101st airborne, air assault at Ft Campbell. Like every other military unit I was in, most were proud of where they were and what they were doing.

Okay, thanks, I couldn't remember. My sister was 82nd and I knew she been to Bragg around 1975. I'll have to ask my brother about Ft.Cambell. He went in 1969 and been to Nam, Korea, and Germany and about four times to Iraq before he retired. Heck he been overseas more than home. :)

The SF tour is usually 6 months instead of a yr. My guys are going on 9 as Navy is late. They say that they go home, clean Hell out of everything and put it away. Get to spend a month w/ family. And then start training to deploy again. We have 20th SF reserve here. They deploy every 3 yrs according to team Sgt and Capt. I know the 3rd SF is supposed to be going to Bagram next time. Don't know why they don't go back to area they are familiar with, but guess that is military. Guess the non stop deployments affect everyone differently. The media would have you believe they are all nuts. I don't see any of that. Have seen a lot of frustration since they were told 3 extra months. But not widespread. Not sure about the stop loss arrangement either. Most of these guys are lifers. Have a couple of kids working in DFAC that can't wait to quit. Don't know what they are going to do as they can't cook too well.:biggrin_2559: But they are the exception on this base.

I spent a week in Kuwait on the way over here. Nice enough folks, but really strict on the booze. You can get it if you have the bucks and connections, but it is a real pain. On a base it may be easier.
Your buddy has guardian angel. 2 hits and still alive is real good. Even some of the up-armored MRAPs get hurt by a big IED.

How does one compare different military units without taking into account their unit's missions? It's impossible to say who's more "######" because it's completely subjective.

You can't become an operator for Delta without having first gone through SF selection and the Q-course. You also have to at least be an E5. You can be recruited by Delta without having gone through SF if they require your MOS. Such as an aircraft electrician, etc. They are a self sustained unit.

There are a lot of SF soldiers that aren't sporting a Ranger tab, and to be honest unless you've spent some time in a Ranger Bat, the tab doesn't mean a whole lot. It's kind of like having gone through jump school and never jumping again, A.K.A - 5 jump chump.

But what do I know anyway... I'm dumb as a boxorox. :biggrin_25519:

Oh ya, lets not forget to mention LRSD while were at it. A lot of SF soldiers and Rangers eventually "graduate" to LRSD. :biggrin_25525:
