My Kenwood TS-530S that I rescued from someone's trash can is on its way back from the tech's shop. He tore it completely down and cleaned it up. It needed new output tubes, plate choke rewound, and a mosfet transistor replaced on the display board. He reworked all the wafers for the bandswitch, ran the rf board through the dishwasher... He found a mint condition front panel and replaced that. Painted the cabinet. Looks and works like brand new now. Not bad for a 30 yr old radio. I cant wait to see it!

If the hams here want to view the photo album and see the before/after pics, just go to this yahoo group and view the album under my callsign.

I have a TS-520S that is as nice as this 530S already. I would like to add a nice 830S and an 820S too. Might as well collect the whole series LOL

I've found lots of radios over the years... but nothing comes close to finding a TS-530S in the trash :yes2557: Definitely nice find!

If you look at the before photos closely, you can see how filthy it was. It has been sitting in a garage for a long time, and it was also full of nicotine and dust too. The cooling fan on the back was packed with nicotine! I remember back when i was a kid, i used to drool over the ads for these radios. Hard to believe that someone would let a gorgeous radio like this go to hell... I wonder what his house looked like...
