I'd just like to know how it is done. When my dad drove his 359, he shifted without the clutch. Before I blew the motor in my pickup, I tried it and the results were a screetching grinding that felt like someone shoved a spike in your ear, then it stalled. I'd just like to know if any of you do it, or if you do know how, please explain.

It is called floating. Better master double clutching first.

Pick up trans were not designed to shift without the clutch.

    Truck transmissions were.

You come to the right place for the question. Old age and experience can teach you a lot if you are ready to pay attention:

A few pickup trany's might allow you to float but most are too tight. You can do some damage. Of course, if you don't know how in a big truck you can cause some serious damage to your tranny also:

Big trucks are not synchronized. You need to get use to speed and RPM's before you try floating. There is really nothing to it in a big truck. The only time I used a clutch was stopping and starting. (most of the time)

If you understand the technics of having SEX you understand that timing and RPS are important. In other words, if you want to get it in you have to follow a two step (foreplay) combined with the three step sequence:

This is very important now, so pay attention . . . .When you are shifting gears, you have to:

    Get it out
    Get it up
    Get it in!

    Just that simple.
