Had my first day of CDL school today. Spent first hour in class discussing logs. then spent about 1/2 on the pre trip inspection. Then it was off and running in the truck learning double clutching and turns and other driving basics. Never been in a Tractor or pulled that big a trailer but it all went very well. I am impressed with the school and my instructor. We spent about an hour and half driving around the complex the school is located in doing turns, stops and double clutch shifting. Then we went off on the road in city traffic and a bit of 2 lane hwy. Seeing as I have never been a book learner and more of a hands on learner I am glad I made the choice of this school. First off I asked around some of the carriers on there thoughts of this school and ran into a 4 year experienced driver who attended the school. That will be the schedule for the remainder of school. 1 hour of classroom in morning and then it's behind the wheel. Let anyone interested on how the remainder of the training goes. Oh yeah and we did a bit of in the box stopping and tomorrow we will do some ally backing and more turns. 3 to a truck today but tomorrow two of us will practice in the yard while one goes out on the road with instructor.
