Is that a Texas tornado I see?...........No its a bunch of safety groups heading to Texas with there heads spinning.

To me it just makes common sense to let trucks travel at the same speed as the rest of the traffic. That way, the four-wheelers can't complain about "slow trucks."
SOmething I would like to see in Texas is an end to the discrimination against CDL drivers. In Texas, if you get a ticket you cannot take defensive driving, get deferred adjudication, or any of the other outs that are available to everyone else. Not only that, if you decide to pay the ticket instead of fighting it in court, you get points on your license. Most lawyers in the Houston area charge $20 per violation for everyone else, but if you have a CDL you get to pay about $250 per violation. Either let CDL drivers have the same outs as non-CDLs, or change the law so that NOBODY gets the easy outs. Either way, it is plain discrimination and it needs to be stopped. -
Not trying to "flame" you, but I very much disagree. Driving licenses in general are an earned privelage, NOT a right. Particularly so with CDL's. A CDL says, in essence, that you are a professional driver and, IMO, should be treated accordingly.
CDL drivers in general, and truckers in particular, under go much more rigorous training and are held to a higher standard. As it should be.
You saying that 18 year old Johnny speeding at 20 over in his "riced up" Honda Accord should be the same as Jimbo doing 20 over in his HAZMAT Tanker (or Jane carrying 40 kids on a school bus, for that matter)?
There is already some leeway in the industry; basically allowing 1 MV per year is a grace period enough. When you start knowing that you can get away with safety violations by attending a short day seminar, you will start being that much more careless. I say keep high, but fair, standards for the professional drivers. But, I may be wrong, it is just my opinion. -
It won't make a difference as most trucks are governed 65mph and below. I kind of like the black signs.
Roadmedic Thanks this. -
This is a Federal Reg IIRC.
-
Ill echo this, alot of trucks have their legs cut off at 62-67mph anyway!
-
When Johnny can easily lose it and crash into Jimbo's tanker causing massive destruction, you're #### right Johnny should be held to the same standards.
-
That's exactly right and Johnny is a great deal more likely to be the one causing the problem. He knows nothing about sharing the road with big rigs and probably only read his state's driver manual enough to barely pass the driving test in the first place.kajidono Thanks this.
-
Johnny can read?, I'm sure there are enough pictures in the manual to get by without having to actually read.
I think a UA should be required for a drivers license.
On second thought, maybe not, we have too many unlicensed/uninsured drivers already.
