CMV drivers have to abide by the tint requirement, but in most states, there are tint laws to allow for regular tinting on any passenger car or truck - I'm in TX, have 5% on the rear window, and 20% on the sides in my Grand Prix.

I guess I don't understand what the argument is about... they allow window tint in Idaho...

Yes, they do allow it here, but there are other places where they do not, so I guess my argument is for those folks, since I really don't have a dog in that fight.
I guess my big gripe is tint in a CMV. It just doesn't make sense to me. Never has.

Oh, and you never explained what you meant by your earlier statement.

I was being sarcastic about the guns in ice. Some officers like their windows tinted so people can't easily see what is inside the car, temperature be darned. In my line of work, I need access to firearms readily, within arms reach sometimes. That means they need to be in the car with me sometimes, thus the dark windows can keep people from easily seeing them.

I work for a department that borders one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the United States. I have been shot at working here, and I have had five co-workers get shot I work with here. I think there is a real difference in atmosphere working where I work and working in Idaho, South Dakota, etc. I have been up there, and the people act very differently than where I work. I would much rather work in the midwest or north in law enforcement than in the South.

I don't understand why you would need weapons readily available in your car that you want hidden unless you are in this line of work, or have been the victim of a carjacking, live in a high crime area. If you want your windows tinted as dark as possible, fine by me. Just be understanding when I stop you in 10 degree weather and tell you to step to the rear of the car where I can talk to you. I don't have tint on my personal vehicle or wife's personal vehicle, because I don't wear this outrageously hot outfit to patrol in when in those vehicles. Spend a summer in Mississippi heat and you will gladly move back to Idaho.

Edit away, but it was already said and read.
Sounded fairly derogatory to me, but maybe I'm just being sensitive and shogun's right and my reading comprehension sucks.

It was derogatory, and that's why I edited - I was being mean from one TX redneck to an Idaho redneck.

Fair enough. However; I do carry everywhere I go that I can legally and also have one close to hand at any given moment. As for dealing with summer heat in the south, I was stationed at Ft. Hood for over three years and worked along the 10 in Louisiana, not to mention many years OTR running along the bottom, many times without the luxury of A/C, so heat and humidity are nothing new to me.
As far as stopping me goes; no problem. Tinted, or not, my window will be down and, if dark, my interior light will be on and my hands will be on the wheel where you can see them. You want me to walk to the back of the car in 10° weather? No problem, I'll be happy to oblige. I also realize that there are many that are punks about it and will give you a hard time for doing your job. I will not.

Yeah, maybe I got a little tipped over for the wrong reasons, but I just have a difficult time with the whole CMV tint regs. Bugs me. We spend more time in these vehicles than anyone else, yet, we aren't afforded the same privileges. Chaps my hide.

Good, then I wasn't being overly sensitive. That is a relief.
Now, while I may not be from Texas, I lived there for awhile, would live there again and I have very precious interests there.
Besides, you were living in the Silver Valley. They're all strange on that side of the 4th of July.:biggrin_25525:

Shogun--As I posted B4--I would have a hell of a time doing your job--and as for the window tint in a personal vehicle--I guess it is personal preference--I know home in Fl--w/out tint--and all the glass in my Pick-Up--you #### well can roast--even w/AC--LOL
IMHO--trouble is (as usual)with the criminals--if I would get pulled over--been awhile though--windows come down--hands stay on the wheel--if it's night--porch light goes on--same in big truck--so to me tint isn't a big deal--course I'm not the one anyone has to worry about--well except for that scared to death rookie NJ Trooper--years ago--ah never mind! LMAO
