of your initial orientation and/or training? I would lke to give TMC a try but I hear they are picky, if they wash-me-out will a company like: swift, prime, or schnieder give me another try, or maybe its better for a rookie not to start with an outfit like TMC, thoughts?
What if you wash-out...

Well the main reason why you would wash out at ANY company would be due to accidents, tickets, or completely incompetence. Those three things would keep you from getting hired at MOST companies, rookie or not.
If TMC is picky then that means they want GOOD drivers......therefore I would HOPE that they have GOOD trainers.
I see no reason why you shouldn't go to TMC ......eddytude Thanks this. -
Yes, you can wash out anywhere and that shouldn't be a determination of which company to go with. Picky is good. It means you'll get decent training and give you a good foundation for your driving future. Actually if you are going flatbed, your backing difficulties are less than with a van reducing your chances of a backing accident which gets alot of students.
I would go in with a positive attitude and you will do just fine. You get three opportunities to pass all your test.
TMC has 13 speeds and once you learn them, you can shift anything. TMC also offers either cents per mile or percentage pay. I have always done better with percentage pay, but I was pulling high paying loads too. Talk to some of their drivers when you get there and get educated on which is best. If you haven't already, take advantage of their 401K plan. A smart man prepares for his future and you will be glad you did 20-30 years from now.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!eddytude Thanks this. -
I do not think they are really any more picky than anyone else. I hear that allot, but then I see people washing out of every large company in large numbers for the same things.
They try and act like they are better than other company's. But that is all an image thing. -
You could just as easily "wash out" as an experienced driver so don't worry about it too much or something will happen. Just concentrate on what you're doing. And start developing good saftey habits (following distance, keep your eyes moving, getting out and looking when you are in doubt). Good luck and I hope you like polishing!
