I may be wrong, but once you run past that 100 mile mark, your whole day has to be logged, not just the trip to Long Island. I don't think you can pick and choose what to log and what not to.

A lot of miss information in this thread.... Plus short haul operations can travel 100 air nautical miles.... So the distance driving on the highway may be 160 miles.... But in the air straight line to straight line it could be 98 miles.

As the crow flies they say. Redd is right as far as I'm concerened. Ive hauled grain with long days and as long as the milage was within the 100 miles and my truck was ship-shape I was good to go. Trust me when it comes to hours grain knows no time except that it needs to be harvestd.

Usually the only shops that pay Time and a half after eight are Union. I think time and a half after 40 is federal law. In Ohio if you are in construction you can drive over 11 hours because it is considered seasonal work. I'd hang in there, keep my eyes & ears open, when a better oppurtunity comes a long, move on.

York,PA to Long Island, NY is 250 mils. The 100 air mile radius is ~115 surface mile. General rule we use is: If your furthest stop is more then 110 surface miles from the yard, use a log book.

You have a 14 hour window, yes, but you can be on duty past 14 hours, just can not drive past 11/14(16 hour rule once every seven days. You drive past 14, as long as driving does not exceed 11) and must take 10 before you can drive again. I have been known to log 15 hour days out of town, all legal.

17 hours? If your back in the yard by 7pm(16 hour rule), then yes, it is legal. Asked to come back at 9am, still legal. All you have to have is 10 off(6am you would be legal). I finished(logged off) at 5pm on Thursday(12.25 hour day) and was rolloing out of the yard at 3:30AM friday morning. Yup, that is a normal local work day. Some day are long, some day are short.

thats about right with the hours. I think you need to log if your hauling haz mat even under a 100 miles but i dont think you are.havent read the whole thread.just bringing that up since you brought up the 100 mile log book rule. Keep on truckin. I got a job offer for driving a vacuum semi truck working 60 hours in 4 days and being on call the 2 days off from the 4. I told them they are crazy! I wouldnt have time to drink!
